New mailbox

Very nice... perhaps one more chain anchor point, back-bottom, to reduce the swing for the postie delivering?

"Postie", another one for the records!!! :)

I had a lady Postie a few years ago that would have refused delivery in a box swinging on chains. She was a total Bitc*. Every time she traded vehicles I'd get a notice that my box was the wrong height........

M80, Did you say M80? Haven't seen an M80 in over 40 years. They sure we're fun! I never personally tried one on a mailbox though. We used them in pumpkins and watermelons mostly and for fishing on the rare occasion when we were skunked. Cherry bombs just never measured up!

Tape 3 or 4 M80s together and throwing the lighted bundle up on top of the Lion's Club building on main street of Ridgeway Missouri will certainly turn off every street light on main street for a few minutes. Well,,,, back in the 60s it did for sure!!!!!

Typically, there is the "Postie-bike", a Honda CT100, that is used for delivery. Yes, even in the Big Smokes (Sydney, Melbourne, etc)... they zip along the footpath to everyone's letterboxes. They may be slowly upgrading to a new version of the bike but I haven't seen one yet.

The more rural areas just use a van.

Thanks for the reply Wagtail!!!!!

There used to be a gazillion of those little Hondas around here. Haven't saw one here for decades. Last time I was in Korea, 1998, I saw several in Seoul. Great little workhorse!!!!

I can't wait for the next time my gang, in group discussion, talks about motorcycles so I can ask them if it was a Postie-bike!!!!!! :D

Took a ride to town today;about five miles;because I just put up the new box I was taking a look at what others have out.Unreal ,hard to believe they even deliver the mail in some of those "mail boxes".Most were leaning forward or back or to the side, all kinds of contraptions holding them up.Saw more than one with a piece of lumber in an old milk pail.I don't think the mail(guy/gal) will complain about my swinging box!

Have never had a damaged mailbox or post in the 55 years that I have lived on my rural route. Very surprising with all the snowplowing over the years and all the traffic.

I am certain, that if I had a beautiful Tractor Themed mailbox, it would be trashed or stolen in no time!

I'm looking at replacing my mailbox. Planning on putting the post behind the culvert under the driveway with a long arm sticking out. Either dangle the box from a chain or cable or mounted on an arm that can pivot. That way it acts as a guard for the hole in front of the culvert that is burried in weeds and/or snow. Movable so I can mow or plow under it if need be & not worth about bumping it.

I'm not a fan of permanent mounts either. Not only are they dangerous for motorists but also bicyclists and large animals. Also, impossible to repair mid-winter when the ground is frozen solid.

Mine is constructed from an old steel badminton base, weighted by cement. Weighs about 200 lbs. The horizontal piece is about 8' long and counterbalances the 3 mailboxes on it. There is also a chain cemented in to the ground on the far end. If hit, the stand will tip over and the chain will prevent anything from becoming airborne.
