New member with Jinma 284

Hello to all..
I just replaced a defunct Jinma alternator with a delco 10 si.. am experiencing a lot of frustration so far.. had to drain and remove the radiator to remove the existing alternator... am having to re-locate and modify the tension arm to get the delco to install and am trying to understand the connection for the rpm guage, which i think is the other post on the delco alternator.

Quite a difference in cost for replacing the alternator, so I hope it all comes together. Jinma chinese replacement $170.00 delco 10 si $55.00..
Will see how it all works out.. Anyone had similar??

Connection for the RPM gauge? What year are we talking about here? DO you have individual gauges or a single gauge cluster unit? The RPM on mine is derived from a sensor screwed into the left side of the bellhousing that senses the passage of the flywheel ring gear teeth. Has nothing to do with the alternator...

By now you have discovered that not all Delco 10Si alternators are created equal. Some have a tachometer terminal along with the field and sense terminals. I did a Delco 12 Si swap on my dozer and it worked out well (I needed 72 amps). You also may be dissatisfied with the output of your new alternator if you retain the OEM pulley because the diesel engine won't spin it as fast as a gas engine would. It should also be noted that while the output of the OEM alternator is only ~14 amps, it is also a TEFC frame, something the Delco is not. $170.00 for a TEFC alternator is a bargain. All the higher end construction and AG equipment have TEFC alternators.
Here is a simple schematic for a "One wire" Si alternator installation (Si = Systems integral. Meaning the regulator is included in the alternator frame).
You will also have to toss or bypass your ammeter and install a voltmeter instead.
