Even before I knew the outcome....dumb test. Why didn't you just tie the two units back-to-back to test them? That would have been just as dumb. Most tractor activity is not sitting in one spot, your moving. It just seems like a test a salesman would think up without real world experience and situations to help customers.

Do dealers make more money with either tire?

Usually, it is best to limit the variables. One variable is best.

When they test metal hardess by pressing a diamond into the surface, that isn't a real world test. The abrasive test with a wheel and sand isn't real world. Salt spray tests are artificial corrosion. Accelerated weathering tests and insulation value tests make lots of assumptions.

It didn't make sense to test tires under a condition that offers maximum traction. Especially being that there is obviously more traction than available power. Do you wonder about traction when you are in the middle of a dry yard or when you are on a muddy hillside or pushing snow?

I don’t think the video was intended for those with a bunch of tractor experience. So it was fairly predictable to many on this forum. Perhaps it was useful to those that have much less experience?

When I was a 20 something, my friends and I went out back on a nice sunny afternoon and tuned up for duck season by throwing clay pigeons and practicing our shooting. We were telling a grizzled old duck hunter about our "smart" preparation. He said "Well that's nothing like duck hunting."

"What you need to do is wake up at 4:00 AM, sit on a hard bench in a crude blind, with your boots in 2 buckets of cold water. After a couple hours of nothing happening, you pour a cup of boiling hot coffee from your thermos, and with your other hand, start eating a sandwich. At that point, your friend jumps out from behind a bush, and throws a screaming fast clay pigeon right at you. You drop the hot coffee in your lap, the sandwich in the cold water, and try to get a shot off. That, boys, is how you prepare for duck hunting."

We all just sat there and knew we had much to learn from this learned man.

Now this seems like a really fair comparison. Lets take a tire that's designed to protect turf and compare tractive forces with a tire that's designed for traction. Further more it would be interesting to compare a real R-4 instead of one that looks more like an R-1. Lastly a 15 minute ride over some rough ground would show some significant differences too.

I am surprised at how many subscribers are so negative on this test just because the results do not justify the purchase they made in the past. It does show a significant difference and may help some choose the best tire for their overall needs. I would have thought the results would have been very close.

There will always be those that are dissatisfied with the parameters of any test, contest or poll. Messick's made an effort. Those not in agreement are free to post an alternative video, yet they do not. Just complain about the fellow who did submit the original .

No, I could care less about the results of a "test" putting turfs on a tractor with a hoe and loader and testing on dirt. It is just like testing the r4's on wet grass with no weight. Each tire has it's pros and cons in different conditions but this "test" only figured in one set of parameters.

I liked the test overall. He stated he hears people say their turf tires provide better traction, and this test proved that to be wrong on the most likely scenario for turf tires... on turf! On the hard lawn surface I thought the turfs would out pull the R4's, but you can't beat the traction the R4's provided on this one. Lowering the PSI on the turfs might help them a bit on the lawn and in snow or mud.

Why would they laugh?

It is impossible to get more pull than the tractor weight,,

even a CAT D9 with cleated tracks can not get more pull than its weight,,,
Nebraska Farm Tests have shown this since the early 1900's,,
