New (Old) Pole Barn

I purchased the attached Lester's 40x100x14 Pole Barn, had it maticulously disassembled, and now am ready to have it reassembled at my farm. All posts, trusses and steel panels are marked to be returned to the location they were when first assembled. Building is 10 to 15 years old and in excellent condition, except for some minor rest on the side showing. Remaining three sides are excellent. The posts are laminated and all the steel was screwed on. My contractor to assemble will start next week, weather permitting. The building will be assembled on a slightly oversized pad elevated about 12 to 18" above the surrounding grade. The posts will be once again set down below the frost line on concrete cookies. The perlins were hung on anchors (remained on trusses) and we will use all new screws. I plan on providing a minor amount of new trim where it was damaged and a few new wall panels where the water hydrant was located.

Is any other things I should be aware of before my contractor gets going? I will using the pole barn for storage only as I have another pole barn for shop, etc.

I can't think of anything else but I do have a question.

How good did the laminated poles look where they were below grade 10-15 years after install? How were they installed originally, on concrete cookies with dirt or stone or something else used for backfill?

We have a lot of discussions about pole setting, so here is a chance to get some observations I figured

Thanks for the question. The laminated posts look like new. The four feet underground are slightly discolored, but no rot. They formerly sat on cookies. Not sure what type of dirt was packed around the poles. Based on condition of the poles, I think it wasn't clay or black (organic) material.

Thank you. No rot is good to hear. Maybe they used sand or pea gravel.

Good luck with your reassembly. Should be a nice building.
