Anyone changed their oil and filter yet? I looked at manual and then at tractor and seems like lots to take apart to get room to drain oil and spin out filter? The manual describes what to do but does not seem to translate when I look at engine area??

Any experience? I am capable of creating problems if I take too much apart :)

Also, anyone put chains on a GT48DXLS...I have gotten stuck 4 times in slippery clay on my back trail. The tires "load up" in just a couple of revolutions. I also think the "full up" height of the deck leaves a bit to be desired. Bad formula with wet clay and just a little deck interference. I have had rear chains and rear wheel weights on 2 different standard 42" Craftsman for nearly 25 years and guess I have gotten used to them. It also is a very wet year here so much more opportunities to get stuck.

Other than that it is a mowing machine...grass and brush :)

Oh yes, as other have advised...DO check your tire air pressure...especially rear tires. FINALLY did that today and rears were over 20# and the tire says 10# max...MUCH better. May also help the traction just a bit. Hope I did no permanent damage to my spine during my first 9 hours!

Really want to get the oil and filter changed...Thanks...TMR

The oil change is very easy. Just lift the hood up and the plastic side panel that is in the way of the oil filter will just snap off. The drain is right there as well. If you use the plastic hose that came with it there won't be much mess. Hope this helps.

I did my initial oil change at 8hrs myself. I went slow, took 15 minutes including greasing all the zerks.

When you say "will just snap off"...there appears to be a rubber fastener on the bottom left hand portion of that panel....do you just apply pressure outward and the fastener will pop out of the mounting point? It sure looks/feels like something that could break. Would rather have a nut and bolt there to deal with.

I have a history of breaking plastic parts :) Do you just use your fingers/hand and gently pull until the fastener comes out?

Thanks...TMR

I changed mine at the 8 hr. mark as per the manual. It was pretty easy. You just have to remove the plastic side panel and you are good to go.

I'm not in front of mine currently but I think you pull upward not outward. If you look on the inside of that plastic panel toward the drivers seat you should be able to see the slots I am talking about.

And yes it's just your hands needed to pull the piece off no tool necessary.

Thanks...got it.

1) Remove lower left corner fastener...kind of a rubber plug that you just pull out and force it to back out through the hole in the frame.

2) Pull up on the right side of the piece you are removing and two connections slide out of the dash piece they are attached to.

Then you have pretty wide open access and sb an easy oil change.

Not sure if the fastener on the lower left corner has a "name"...and not sure how many times you can re-use?

Thanks dslanec...manual with pictures would have made easy...TBN to the rescue! Oil change tomorrow.

dslanec,

Having had your Husqvarna for a while now, how would you rate the performance of the machine and the quality of cut with the mulch kit installed? Thanks.

So far I have 34 hours on the machine. This spring I had a sprinkler system installed and my lawn is growing like crazy! I can literately mow it every other day. That being said I have had issues with to much clumping going on. I mow 1 notch from the longest setting. Mind you my grass is always moist to some degree and that doesn't help. Recently I have shut the sprinklers down so they do not run in the morning if I am going to mow that day to see if that helped. I did see a big improvement with dryer grass but there is still a "row" of grass clipping on each pass. The clippings are very small though. I have not had a mulching mower before so I can't compare this to another one. Again my grass is very dense. I am considering getting the triple bagger. My concern is I will spend to much time dumping the grass and will be annoyed by that? I have been very happy with everything else about the machine. I have pulled a cart full of landscape pavers around that weighed about 800# no problem. The wife likes the machine too and mows the lawn as much as I do

Hello all,

New to this forum and registered just to introduce myself and ask some questions. I have a good friend who works for Husky and can get me this model for $1,500. I'll be using it to mow 2 acres of mostly flat land. Would this be a good buy for someone who has no experience with a riding lawn mower? Anything else I should consider? How's everyone's holding up so far?
