By the way that does not seem like such a great deal. My neighbor has a 2007 Classic 3500 SRW 4 Door Crew Cab Long Bed with the Dmax and the 6 speed Allison, Leather, Sat Radio, Heated Seats and Mirrors. He got it about a year ago when the 2007 new body styles came out and he paid $36,000 off the lot. They were running the Employee Pricing event at that time.

Congrats on your new purchase, I'm looking at 2008 GMC 2500 HD. With GM's Red Tag pricing and rebates, $48,200 MSRP, $34,800 before Virginia sales tax and $299.00 dealer processing fee. Good price or not?? My only drawback is I have 2004 Dodge Quad Cab with hemi (96,000 miles) and was only offered $6,000 for trade. What you guys think??

I think it is too high a price. My last two trucks have been exactly what you are talking about pretty much the same sticker price. I payed similar to what they quoted you. Keeping in mind that I bought in 2005 and 2006. They need to really sell trucks right now. Also I payed I believe about 33,500 for my 2006 and that was with 0 per cent financing. While I realize that you pay more for 0 per cent financing that is my point exactly. I got a cheaper price and still got 0 per cent.

6.6L V8 Duramax Diesel - 6 Speed Auto Allison, Crew Cab 2500 4wd, 3.73 rear axle. Truck has been setting on lot 292 days according to inventory sheet that dealer printed for me. 17" aluminum wheels. I agree with you on the trade, but really don't what a fair price would be. Dodge is in great shape. No dents, stains, just normal wear and tear. Has spray in bed liner and stainless steel Borla exhaust.

You also might want to look at a bigger city dealer. When I bought my 2006 I traded in a 2005 I had bought in Tulsa, Ok The local dealer in Fort Smith made me the best deal he would make. I actually left because we were 500.00 apart on price and he would not split the difference. He used the tactic of letting me drive off the lot and then figured I would be back and when I did not come back after an hour called me and told me that he would meet my price. I got back and told him I would take it and I wanted to be able to drive it home that night because I was going to tulsa, ok over the upcoming holiday. I got this well we will have to check your credit and dont think we can do it that fast routine. I said fine and filled out the credit application and then called the dealer in Tulsa, OK where I had bought my truck. I told him what I wanted and said I had found one in Fort Smith, Ar. When he asked what he had to do to get me to buy from him I told him that he had to sell it to me for this price then gave him a price 1500.00 lower than the Fort Smith dealer had finally come down to. The salesman just kind of said oh. Then said he had to ask the manager and he would call me back in 15 minutes. 15 Minutes later he called and said what color do you want and when do you want to pick up your new truck. So calling around can make a huge difference.

I would give you some practical advice about the truck. My 2005 had what I like to call huge car mirrors One piece mirror no convex mirror at all.. My 2006 had 2 piece truck style mirrors with the seperate convex mirror on the bottom and you could slide out the entire mirror away from the body for seeing a trailer easier. I hated the 2005 mirrors. My wife actually accused me of trading the 2005 truck for the 2006 just to get the other mirrors ( she was not entirely wrong) If you use your truck for any kind of towing or even think you are going to be doing towing get the truck mirrors they are so much better as to be unbelievable.

I think it's a good deal on the trade in. Dealers can't give squat for trades on used full size trucks because nobody wants them. The big 3 have no room for gas guzzling full size trucks with 100K on the ticker. $6,000 isn't that bad for a trade in, but it's less than if you sold it outright in the truck trader, of course.

used cars and trucks just aren't selling right now so the low trade-in has alot to do with that. i traded in a little 2wd Tacoma pickup when i bought my mother an 08 Malibu and it's still sitting on the lot. the shocking thing is this was back in August when i traded the truck in. i got $11,000 for it at the time and it was a 2007 and had 21,000 miles on it. i know people say to sell your truck or car outright but i can't think of a bigger pain in the you know what. unless you KNOW somebody whos been eyeballing your truck for years and waiting for you to sell it, you usually will have to go through alot of crap when selling a vehicle. the problem is when you finally do sell it, is the truck you want still on the lot? usually it's either sold, or the rebates have expired, or something else that always seems to happen to me. sure i made a couple extra grand but have no new truck to show for it. i would either try to get him to come down on the price he quoted you some more, or get him to up your trade in allowance. i think you will have more success in getting him to come off of his price though as dealers are desperate to move trucks right now, especially 08's. make 'em work for your business!

$1100 bucks for a 2007 toyota pick with only 21000 miles on it Wow!
I'd have giveen you $3500 for it.

you are a big advocate of 1 ton srw versus 3/4 pickups. I am not sure where you get your information from could you post a link or two. From what I am seeing with chevrolet the difference seems to be minor. I dont know about other states but in Arkansas a 3/4 ton and smaller truck uses regular car license plates. 1 ton and above have to get commercial plates which cost about 4 times as much as the car plates do. It is not a big amount of money but there is a difference.

Go to the manufactures site or stop by the dealers lot and look at the GVWR on the door sticker. For example a Ford F-250 and F-350 have 1,500# of difference. According to what I hear on a GM its only a 700# gain. A good buy in my book for $600. The resale will make you money on the SRW 1 ton over the 3/4 ton.

Just going off my observations. I have owned a 3/4 Ford and Dodge and have had 3 1 tons SRW 2 Fords and a GM. I just feel there is not enough gain to justify a 3/4 over a 1/2 and you should just take the leap to the 1 ton class.
