Well finally the day has arrived. I have been saving for 2 years for this day. They began construction today on my 32'x56'x16' eve height pole building. It will have a 14'x14 door for storage of my motorhome and two 10'x9' doors for the truck and tractor entrances. They are setting trusses tomarrow and starting the metal too, then supposed to be finishing on Friday. I will continue to post progress pics.

jmusser15,

Does your tractor have ROPS and will it clear the shop door when it is all the way up. Saw this happen and they have to drop the ROPS to clear the raised door!

Congratulation on your new building!:cool2: Were are you located? I think 10x10 doors would be minimal size, unless there is a clearance issue. You need to think about future use's also.

10x9 is an odd size, 10x10 may be cheaper? :2cents:

Nice! Congrats, it's good to see dreams coming true. I've got a barn on the family farm to restore (built 1914?) has great bones, but siding and tin need replacing. One day it will happen..

It is always exciting to see people get new buildings, which solve their problems.

I am impressed your builder selected glu-laminated columns for your building, they are a superior product.

Some things which amaze/surprise me:

Why it is builders persist in placing posts every 8'? Considering steel roofing and siding comes in multiples of 3' neither 32' or 56' results in an even number of steel panels per wall. More work for the builders, and a small, but unneeded waste of material which the building owner ends up paying for.

Also (with 8' column spacing), the wall girts as installed, do not meet with the requirements of the Building Codes: Them Girts, They Be a Bending

Unless there is a tricky access to the large overhead door, paying the huge premium for a 14' wide door, rather than the more standard 12' wide is something I do not understand either. For the cost of 14', one might as well pay the few extra dollars and go with 16' wide, which at least would allow for two cars to enter side-by-side.

Actually 10'x9' and 10'x10' are usually pretty much exactly the same price. They use the very same tracks and hardware, the 9' tall doors just use four 21" panels, instead of four 24" panels.

Well the building is complete. Now for the doors to be ordered and installed. I am happy with the colors and the contractor that built the building. I have to do a little grading and then put stone down and then I can start filling it with my toys. I will eventually concrete everything except where the motorhome is parked.

Good job on the building. How long did the building take? What was the cost? And, do you have a link on those beams? I haven't seen them used before. I need a hay building, and as most farmers, I'd like to spend as little as possible on it.

The building took them 3 long days. I had the site prep done when they arrived and started. The total cost of the building constructed was $16,370. The posts are spaced at 8'-0" on center and drilled to a depth of 36" and set on 8"x18" diameter concrete. They are (3) 2x6 Glue Laminated with the bottom portions treated for earth contact and that is why they are green on the bottom portion.

Well I finally was able to put a few toys in the new building. I had 30 tons of crusher run hauled in and spread level using a transit. Then I compacted it using a plate vibrator for a nice packed level floor. Eventually I will get concrete but this provides a nice flat floor in the meantime. Doors are next on the list.

I'll bet it is nice to be able to put such a fine motorhome in out of the elements. Looks great.
BTW What part of PA are you located in?

Nice looking job on the laying & leveling of the CR & that will make one NICE base for the eventual concrete! Good to not have to RUSH to try and get some fill in and will give it some extra time to self compact so eventually the concrete will hardly move or crack when done in future. My barn took 10 years to get the concrete $ saved up in the mean time I wish had a floor in there that was half as good as one you now have. My concrete was done in Sept 11 and so far only cracks that showed up are at the very ends of the expansion joint cuts outside on the pad. This area had some last minute fill added & compacted but just the final bit from the cut area. the other area is at the Garage Door where the inside and outside pads meet. There are some rebar reinforcing in the area & the cracks are hairline inside around the closest post. none of which will ever effect anything, I did NOT cut the inside floor either as I didn't think it would be worth it. WHY CUT and have a 1/4" dirt trap when/if it cracks it should not move more than a hair. I used Remesh and fiber in the 6000psi x 5" thick slab. so far it is holding up great (one problem I did/so have) is I STAINED the inside concrete but the stain peels off with any heavy traffic or metal wheels on it. Rustolium Stain was on clearance and I know why it was junk...

Really nice looking, actually that floor looks better than some concrete floors I've seen. Sure bet Mr.Motorhome is breathing a sigh of relief in its new accommodations
