NEW ROLLER & SHEEPS FOOT - ON THE WAY

Personally, I think I would look for another candidate to use for the roller. By the time you reinforce this tank, it will be like a new tank so might as well get one to start with!

What will the Sheeps foot be made of? as in the foot itself?

Hi Alan,
The "feet" will be made out of cut off R/R spikes & R/R Lag bolts. I have a few hundred of them. Should I run out ;) I have some 1" re-bar. The old boiler has quite a few knobs on it already.

I do have a water (pressure) tank that is in good shape. 1 or 2 bullet holes in it. It's just a little smaller than I want. But would make a nice roller.

Think I'm going to set the rusty tank aside and do a little scrounging around. Would like to find an old propane tank around 80 to 100 gallon. Or a really big hot water tank, in fairly good shape.

Better sit down and have a cool 1 or 3, while I ponder the build.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Moving right along almost at the speed of a snail. Got the roller tank out of the way. May get some 3/16" or 1/4" sheet to make a good end. But would like to find another tank.

Got the old roller moved around to work on. Pulled the drain & fill plate off and drained out the water. Now to weld a whole bunch of Feet onto the tank.

Sorted out 50 to 70 R/R spikes & lag bolts to cut off for the feet. Have a lot more if needed.

Round head UP or Down?? Not sure yet, What do you think?? How does 1" long sound to you???

Too much thinking & too little working.

Not real happy with RR spikes for the feet. Contact area, 1/2" square too small, afraid that they will rip off when turning or worse yet rip the tank.

Have any of you ever made a a Pillow Block Bearing?? The ones big enough for this guy are about $150. each. Here is my plan, 3/16"x2" Steel strap, bent into a "U" shape with ears that fits around 2" water pipe. Sleeve it down with PVC pipe to fit the axles, drill a bunch of holes in the PVC to hold grease. Cut off coupling's to lock it in place. Chances are that every now and then the PVC will have to be replaced, but not a big deal.

Next, have a small tank 12" x 60", it will be mounted slightly above and forward of the big tank. 2 Reasons, a little more tongue weight. Next a spray bar will be added in front of the sheep's foot and 1 behind it. A little water may help on some jobs.

My pea brain is getting tired of all this thinking. :D:laughing:

Sure like to hear what some of you think. :confused3::anyone::mur:

Nylon can be used for a bearing. Maybe try the plastic cutting boards you buy at Wal-Mart. Use two hole saws to make rings and then stack a few rings up for a longer bearing surface. Bearing grade plastics are available online and from bearing supply stores if you want to buy something ready made.
