New rolling tool chest

Well, it's not quite an attachment for the tractor, but it does keep my tools used for the tractor.


Just got back from Costco with a new stainless tool chest. I think it is quite the deal for $650. It's 41" wide and about 66" tall. I've been needing a new chest for awhile now and have looked everything over from Sears, Lowes, HD, TSC etc. and for the money this looks like the best thing going.

It is quite similar (although not exact) to this chest:

If you're in need of one, I would check it out as I beleive it is quite the deal.


Also, Costco has the 56" model listed in the website above for $899. I probably should have bought it, but I really only needed the 41" medel.

Now that's sweet. Probally could attach it to the 3 pt. somehow and make it portable. Now for more fun, filling it with tools.

I bought the top and bottom box from Sam's club, not as nice as yours but mine was $450, Mine is 31" wide and 61" tall. Nice box you got!!

how deep?

ive been eyeing them for a couple of years now but most just dont seem to be deep enough for me at only like 19"...

i perfer the deeper 24" boxes as you gain another 20% storage capacity for basicly the same lenght/height box..

It's standard depth at 19". I don't see to many at the larger depth, and certainly not for the same $. Snap-on has some for mucho dinero.

Snap-ons are some serious dinero!

A family member spent $5000 on one 25 years ago.

I just moved it today to another location across town as he was selling his house. I kid you not that thing loaded with tools weighed no less than 1700 pounds. Good times.

I can tell you that I am absulutely ecstatic about mine. My wife gave me the larger one from Costco last year. The 19" depth is fine for me, as I constantly roll mine around in the shop to give access to a raised door behind it. A deeper box would also be 20% heavier to push!! But after a year, it still looks pretty new & has been a lovely place to stick all the decals & plaques I had collected for years until I finally got the toolbox of my dreams! Oh, AND a fine place to store all my tools as well! ;-)

A box like that would cost me a fortune in the long run. I would have to keep buying replacement tools for the ones I loose in the upper top portion.

That is, unless they would happen to sell a matching 3 foot step stool!!

Even if your garage isn't finished being organized at least your floor is painted ... Oneday I would love to re-arrange my garage and U-coat or epoxy my floor but its the moving everything out first, painting walls yada,yada yada....

But back to your toolbox ,have fun arranging a filling it!!

For several months I've been watching the Sears ads for their tool chests, hoping there'd be a good sale about the time my garage/shop was ready. Well, it still has blue tarps for windows and the doors won't be installed until Nov, but it's ready enough that the tools move in from the Costco tent and won't be leaving. Reading your thread caused me to rethink. The sears boxes are OK, but stainless steel would be a better match for the climate. I'd seen the SS chests at Sam's Club, but we don't have one on this island. Couldn't for the life of me remember if I'd seen any at Costco, definitely none on their website, but it's 160 miles roundtrip - a bit far for a looksee. I posted a query on another internet forum and some wonderful people got me the info. Sooooooo, today, the wife and I made the trip and now I'm also the proud owner of the 41 inch model ($699). On the way home, my dear wife expresses surprise I didn't get the 52 inch, saying it would be a shame to realize after the fact the one I got is too small. Sure hope Costco sells these for another year or so, as it seems like I got permission to get it.

I did leave the white protective stuff on the SS as my shop/garage is the major construction area for the new house. Once all is done, I figure then I can take it off and it will be like new.

Life is good - very good

You do realize that you don't actually "own" it until the protective film comes off - right?

I think you will enjoy it David. They sure seem to me anyway an excellent piece of equipment at a really good price. I would have had to spend quite a bit extra anywhere else I looked for a comparable box.

Nice tool chest ! My wife bought me a Sears-dollied tool chest, but I am too ADHD to keep it functional (I leave tools laying near where I think I need them and not in the tool chest. I keep everything in a tool box that I can barely lift ). Maybe if I exhibited some behaviors indicative of progress as to organization I could get my "Vehicle enclosure and Workshop". Jay

Dude! Don't take the white protective stuff off!! Take it back immediately and exchange it for the 52 incher.

The one thing that bothers me about this forum is that every day it makes me want something new.

No no no no.... I get to keep the 41 and then eventually get the 52 so I have both heheheh. Besides, I'm using the white stuff to write labels on. Anyone know of a good labelling system?

Boy, I have to say, even though I don't have it fully loaded, it is quite a pleasure to open a drawer and actually find the tool I want.

We don't have Costco stores where I live, but Sam's Club. A couple of years ago they started carrying those boxes on and off. I know a lot of guys who turn wrenches as a profession and they have 60 month loans on their tool boxes; no tools included, just the boxes. Yeah, their drawers sure glide nicely, but I just don't see that for me. Anyway, since I noted that the 56" box clearly stated that it had ball bearing drawers, I bought one of those from Sam's.

It's been nearly two years as I said, and I certainly don't regret it! I don't miss the really hard pulls on the drawers like on my old boxes that have the heavy tools in them, and I do like the capacity better. I put my "first set" of tools in the stainless box and all my mis-matched assorted stuff in my other boxes. I gotta admit, especially for the price, those stainless boxes are a good buy! Heck, mine even came with the drawer liners and they were pre-cut to fit the drawers.

Costco first offered stainless tool boxes several years ago, the Hammerhead brand. I bought one, but now am kicking myself that I didn't buy another, because the ones they offer now are knockoffs of the Hammerhead brand and not as nice. (The latest ones they are selling are better than the ones they had a year or so ago, however.)

You can buy Hammerhead toolboxes like mine online; for over $3K! (from Hammerhead direct) I think I paid around $700 or so. This was in San Diego, where Costco started, and they start new products. I don't know if they offered the Hammerhead brand nationally back then, or just the knockoff brands.
