New sink drain trouble

Ughh. Cast iron sucks. I’m no plumber, but as a GC, I see a lot of crap. The only, and I mean only good thing about cast iron is that it’s quiet. We remove as much cast as we can when doing remodeling. See a lot of lead toilet hubs, tub/shower drains , etc connected to the cast iron. Good scrapping!

Curiously, what's bad about cast? Most of the drains in my house are cast, been there 100+ years no problems. Weighs a ton to be sure.

Can you remove the cabinet? I had a similar issue with a bathroom vanity. Every fix that I could come up with made me feel guilty doing that to my client. The only thing that I felt comfortable with was removing the cabinet, cutting out the sheetrock, and raising the drain pipe. Once I got past the metal issue of doing it, the actual work only took a couple hours.

Backsplashes already fully glued to the wall and cabinet, so no way I was going to pull it out. But I did get it done today. Added a cleanout for peace of mind. Here it is and the cabinet and countertop I made for it. Upper cabinets will be next.

I've always wanted a "mud" room. Never had one, but they sure seem like a great idea.

My dad's house had a mud room/laundry with an outside entrance. Nice for cleaning up without tracking through the house. Our first house and our current house both have unfinished stairways to the basement laundry rooms directly inside the back doors. That's the next best thing to a mud room, I guess.
