New telemarketing Gimmick

I think it's rather hilarious that on a thread about spammers, post 22 responded to and quoted a spammer who revived a 2 year old thread to post spam, and even though the spam post has been removed, the quote with the spam remains.

I have a question for the group... How long after your car's warranty expires will the calls stop for the purchase of extended warranty?

Since I get those calls and my newest vehicle is a 2000 model year, I don't think they ever stop...

The Indian dudes that keep trying to help me with my medicare coverage don't get the hint that I'm 38 and don't have it either...

A short story. Not telemarketing but the same idea. Having a party at our house around 1978. This fellow kept calling - asking for his wife - Jean. The third or fourth call - a friend took the phone from me.

- Hello, you calling for Jean?
- Yes, she is my wife and she should be home by now.
- Well, Jean was here until about an hour ago. She left with Joe. You know Joe, the plumber. She left with him to get her nipples rethreaded.

No more calls from Jean's husband .............

I love telemarketing calls . We just don't get many anymore since I mess with them, fake name, cc#, address, etc.
Last week I did get the car extended warranty one. Yes, 2015 Ford Focus. Some guy goes into 15 min speel, my phone in shirt pocket. While I work every few minutes I say "yea...un-huh...okay". Then guy says I'll need paper and pencil...I say sure, he says take your time, I'll wait. So I'm feeding horses, putting tools away, etc. "Barbara...are you still there?" "Yes. I'm still looking for a pencil".
The sales-idiot is waiting 30 minutes. I hear him mutter "G-D! & WTF!!!!!".
Finally "I got a pencil!" As he gives me some crazy # I say "hold on...lead broke...I'll sharpen it". After another 20 minutes or so I've never heard so much cursing & screaming then he hangs up!

Once of the greatest features in the Apple 14.0 operating systems for phones is the ability to automatically silence calls from unknown contacts. You see the notification as the phone "rings" but the call goes to voice mail.

I was getting 10-15 spam calls per day and this not only cut that number down after about a week, but also made my life much more easier.

Do you think those calls have anything to do with your car? You will get them even if you don't have a car. They are completely random.

The only thing these call have to do with is their hope of removing money from your pocket and into theirs.

They never give up!
My cell phone rings, I check the number, it's an 800 number, before I can answer it it stops ringing.
I think maybe the call got cut off, maybe it's a LEGITIMATE call from a company trying to reach me?????
I call back and they go into their sales pitch! I was so mad I forget what they were selling!!
Telemarketing IS NOT A JOB! It's phone harassment.
Older people still remember- The telephone is not a toy! Stop playing with it!
Way back when the phone and phone manners was taken seriously.
Why call them back? Don't do that. I never answer any 800, 855, 833 or whatever numbers, it's almost always bs. The very rare times it's not, they'll leave a message.

I went ahead and turned on that option. I was already not answering calls from numbers that are not in my contacts, but on very rare occasions I would answer one when I was expecting a call.

One example that comes to mind was when my wife was seriously injured and was transported to the hospital via ambulance. I received a call from one of the paramedics when they were on route to the hospital. I've also had less serious cases, such as receiving a delivery.

All in all, I think there will be far more benefits to silencing the calls. Thanks for the suggestion.

About a day longer than forever. I have never had an extended warranty, yet get those calls on a regular basis. I would gladly pay for one, if they would fix the rust, brakes, and front end on my old Ranger that's setting out in the field.
