I believe you should only purchase one rim first, and do a test fit. I am thinking that your wheel motor box might need some adaptation. Will the ground distance be any less than what you have now.

Looking at all your efforts from the outside, I think you are asking the machine to do more than it was designed for. If you don't change the torque by a considerable amount, I think you will be disappointed by the intended improvements.

You should also realize that a mower deck hanging off the front, will make the rear wheel weight to the ground a bit less than the front. That's if you are running in the float mode.

I cut out cardboard to test and flat plates shaped like a thick one of these ")" to match the rim with an access hole to the stem seem like they would work. I will be fabing up some before i fill my tires with Gempler's. Going to do a dry run with plastic first. I did a cardboard tube as well and it is hard to get much protection with suitable clearance and definitely a more difficult fabrication.

The plates will make it harder to add air to the inner tire but i expect this will not be necessary very often with the Gempler's installed.

you may be right about pushing the 2445 beyond its intended design, but with weight, measurements and power specs comparable to 1885, i'm becoming convinced it will work. i'm not looking for perfection, just mowing capacity. dualies are not forever. mower is almost half the tab. if we acquire 1850, we have rims and tires to upgrade

...2445 is beefier 500 lbs more. 15 gal tanks intead of 12. hyd specs are same. COG will be slightly higher. Lift capacity goes down from 9' to 8' 9". View may be improved. smaller wheels and tires would reduce ground clearance to about 8". although mower can be used in front, i plan to pull it. i think the weakest link may be potential overheating issues that others have faced. if it doesn't work i'll have to find an 1850.

as i see it i could move the motors out or use PT's hub extensions to allow full dish clearance. it is logical to have the motor as deep into the rim as possible, and i could add width for stability...on the other hand extension adapters negate need to modify. PT has the parts and their engineers concur it is doable.

Hold on... what?... PT has parts for this operation? Do tell! What parts do they have?

4 hub extenders @150 ea, 8 rims @ 79.50 ea, 20 studs & 20 lug nuts for 150 and a 72" mower for 2300. Tires from local shop, mounted 1050.

practical approach. I like it. i'm also considering angled valve stems (available for bikes) and looking for a source that would fit these rims. capping those with a short piece of angle iron might provide valve protection, low profile clearance and easier side access

note to self: remember to mount the wheels so valve stems on inner and outer are in line.

hey JJ. ...pondering your torque comment...how, besides decreasing wheel size, can torque be increased?

Larger wheel motors, and larger engine, maybe turbo.

OK, So help me out. You are not moving the wheel motors out but extending out the "hub" location with a hub extender? Won't that put a lot of stress on the motor? This is something PT is selling?

Also, I think you are going to have no luck with those bike valves. I went through lots of combinations on the valve stems... Ultimately it had to be very stubby valve stems.. There is something weird inside the rims of my PT that prevent certain valve stems from working...
