No attachments, unless the fire extinguisher counts

I've got a non pt grapple bucket, flail brush mower and excavator type mini mulcher en route. I'm finishing up a rehab on a 7'x16' deckover trailer. This winter I'll rebuild a 6' power rake and fit up an excavator attachment... Probably adapt the burley 3pt hitch from my 425d to the rear of the 1850....dunno yet. Happened pretty fast.

This things job for me is margin(field, road, utils) maintenance and trail construction /management.

Price? Well I nevah... Bless your curious heart. <--to be read with a slight gasp in my late grandmother's drawl!

Don't tell her I answered such a question!... Less than a new 425,more than a new 422.

BTW surpluscenter.com has a hydraulic motor that is a good match for the 1850 to run 540 rpm ag implements... 8.1ci...one left.

Hey Ken, thx for the response on the hydraulic motor. Let's talk about it...New thread if you want.

I'm learning... And have asked surpluscenter.com for advice.

My understanding is that I'll lose a few rpm, 21...but that the 8.1ci motor is applying the full 18.2gpm @ 3200psi & developing the full hp/torque available to the hydraulic pto, 30+. While the 7.63ci one is limited to 26hp and cannot sustain the psi of the 1850 w/in it's spec.

I got one of the 8.1 & added a shaft adapter... So I'm at about the same $.

I've got a lot tied to this experiment... My brute of a flail mower showed up yesterday.... To really get the most out of it, I gotta clear 30hp.... It's spec for up to 4-5" brush. Once I'm satisfied with with that pair... I'll order the 28" mulcher which is made locally. The 21rpm don't matter as much to me as max sustained pwr.

I'm definitely interested in your input. Why would you be after 7ci?

The main use I have been thinking of needing a PTO motor for is a flail mower like you are doing. From what I have read, RPM seems to be more critical for flails than bush hogs, better to be high than low. I hate having to have full WOT (wide open throttle) output to make an attachment work properly. That is why I would even prefer a 7 cu in one in order to have a safety factor. And yes, it would be nice if the PTO unit could handle the full pressure. The total shaft length can also be an issue depending upon the setup. And I did intend to say "might be better". Running short on sleep these days.

Gotcha. In my experience with flail mowers the rpm are very important when cutting high /consistent density grass...where it translates to cut quality... Less important when swinging mass at scared brush... Which is lower ground speed any way... That said, if the thing is not spinning fast enough to keep the flails out you really just have a lawn striper!

At any rate, seems to me that I have a better chance of keeping those 43oz <--yeah almost 3#> flails spinning out and angry by having the torque to follow through even if the peak rpm is 520...This particular mower is a trail cutter from China. And 66" cut width plus side shift....so I can clear single wheel setup or one side if running duals...

Flail mower if interested, is fhm d160 betstco.com... Build quality and finish is good. If the gear flakes out... I'll ultimately just direct drive the output to the belt pulley...

These won't be hours long sessions of flailing...

Not that it is a flail, but I went undersize on the motor for my wood chipper with the idea that I might be able to drive it at more than 540rpm. (It was an international manufacturer, so I was pretty sure it would handle 1000rpm; it does.)

With a flail mower...I really don't know you want the speed, because the kinetic energy in the flail goes up as the square of the speed, but you do need the power, because that is the amount of material that you can mulch per unit time.

It sounds like you got a great machine for a great price.

Can you tell that I'm green with envy?

All the best,

Peter

Hey Peter. Can you in a seperate thread show us your Chipper? Just found one on CL for a song, one of those chinese brands that proabably needs to be adjusted and then works like a charm... seller seems to think it is junk and selling it for junk price. Want to see how you did the motor assembly.
