Buying Advice New Tractor advice

That's true, that's actually one of the things I liked about buying LS ... I can either go to an LS dealer, a Case dealer, or a New Holland dealer, to find the same parts for my tractor. Between the three brands, my parts availability in and around my area increases.

Keep in mind, when we're talking about compact tractors, most of the brands including big green and big orange are made overseas anyhow, so the time it takes to get your parts in won't necessarily be any faster with parts coming from India or Japan, than they will from South Korea. The difference I would think, would be parts that are more susceptible to breaking down, that they would keep stocked in inventory for repairs as they come up.

But luckily, my LS will probably never have a problem so it is a moot point. Just kidding... but seriously ;)

Redblok,
There's Kubota dealers closer to you. It's Byrd in Manassas and McMichael in Warrenton - though the latter is more expensive and not willing to negotiate. I shopped around alot before I bought last year and with Kubota's incentives and the great deal Byrd offered(better than any other dealer would even come close to)- it was a no-brainer. I only have 2 acres and use mine mostly for light duty stuff so I bought small but the power and ease of use is fantastic. I wouldn't go as far to say as their service is great - we've had a couple warranty problems, but they ended up doing the right thing in the end. They have a very good service guy to work on your site, but other than 'warranty work' I do my own maintainance/repair. Hope this helps as I'm sure Byrd can help you save financially, anyway. Weigh all your options and good luck. KW

All good points. My original limit was $22K - based upon comments from member and researching the different manufactures along with my requirements, I increased it. Knowing that this was an investment and it is better to buy enough tractor the first time rather than kick yourself later. I will go back an look at the LS and the JD. Right now - JD is just all over the place on pricing on Tractors and implements. The fact that the different JD dealer get qoutes will vary not by a couple of hundred dollars, but rather $1000's of dollars for the same tractor bothers me. I feel like I can't trust them. That is a real problem for me.

I will say that the Mahindra dealer layed everything out in the open. Maybe it is just the Dealer that I am working with. They are the number two dealer in the US and move over 100 units a year. The JD dealer near my place in the mountains has had the same machines sitting there for many months - very little inventory turn over. That tells me something too.

All of these compacts are made overseas- Korea, India, Japan, etc. That being the case, I think JD, Kubota and Mahindra will always be around. Even JD dealers don't stock all the parts and have to order them. Parts on shelves costs money too.

I appreciate all the feedback and comments. Buying a tractor is really hard.

Thanks

I'm not trying to sway you to LS by any means, was just using that as an example for parts, etc ... The Mahindra tractors look to be a nice option, the 4035 included. Shoot, any current compact tractor from any brand will most likely be a good choice, and we're all really just splitting hairs when pointing out the differences between them. I might have ended up with a 5035 had pricing & weight not been so much higher than my LS.

That's the main reason I removed JD and Kubota from my list as well, just didn't see the justification for the price difference ... but I'm admittedly cheap so that probably means more to me than others :D

TSO - It helps to consider all the options. Like you, I am admittedly cheap too. That's why the Green and Orange machines are quickly falling off my list as I dig deeper. I just want to get this done before the current crop of tractors are gone and the new Tier IV engines are in place. All the people I have talked to are saying that the price will increase by $3-4 thousand. That should be the 2014 models that will be hitting the streets soon.

How do you like your LS R4047? also what is a good price on one?

I like it a lot, It seems to be a very good tractor. I bought it in June for $21,760. I've put around 135 hours on her so far, and she has been operationally perfect. I won't say that it is perfect, as there are things about it that I would change, like I would do with any tractor from any brand... but those things might just be a little personal nit-pics that apply to me and me only (kind of like I would prefer to take bits and pieces from every tractor that I tried out and put them into one machine)...

One of the reasons I went with this LS is because it has a stronger loader than most of the other tractors in this segment... and even still, being that I do mostly loader work, I find myself wanting an even stronger loader. That is why the Mahindra 5035 & 5010/6010 rigs would be on my map if I was buying again, as they offer HST with more horsepower and stronger loaders still.

I may just beg LS to bring an HST into their XU series, as I think that would be the perfect fit for me if I was staying with LS. I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens if I have the money available in a couple years to upgrade.

Lots of great choices out there right now though. I wouldn't worry about LS not staying around, they have been in business for quite awhile... and they are selling lots of tractors between their own brand name, and the other brands of that buy and rebadge them. They also seem to be very durable and reliable, you'll have a hard time finding many problems at all with them, regardless of which brand name they are wearing.

All for under $27K - Plus I am buying out of state so no sales tax.

True, no "sales" tax, but you absolutely are liable for 5% Consumer's Use Tax. Lots of people ignore it, but states are getting more aggressive in pursuing, and prosecuting for it.

I only say this for folks reading who may not be aware of it.....I certainly wouldn't openly advertise my intentions online ;-)

I also have an R4047H, about 165hrs on it in 11 months, zero issues. I paid $21,500 for it, and they've gone up a bit since then, but you should be able to get one right around $22k. The R4041H would probably do everything you need (same loader), and save a few bucks....my dealer advertises them for $21,275: LS tractor loader R4041, 41hp, hydro

Here's mine moving a stack of heavy 4x8' concrete forms to help build it's new house!
