2014 Silverado 2500 LT Duramax with factory trailer brake controller. It's my first diesel was looking at the 6.0 gas but they had this one used as a demo and the price was right.

Congratulations. GM has really improved the product. I had a 05 and my neighbor had a 07 that were nothing but trouble.

At work we probably have 50 Dmax trucks. Just got rid of all the 08's. They were good. We now have 2011's and 2014's. We are on a 3 year 120,000 mile cycle. The 2011's have not been as good as the 08's and so far the 14's have been pretty good other than some oil pan issues and brake controller glitches.

All together we have 250 trucks and 289 total vehicles.

So far I am pleased fit finish inside and out is excellent, plenty of smooth power, and it's quiet inside the cab little too no road noise.

Good friend of mine bought a Duramax in their second year of production. Drove it 5 or 6 years and traded it for a new 6.0 gas. Is now impatiently waiting until it's old enough he doesn't take a bath trading and going back to the Duramax. Another friend retired and bought a 5th wheel trailer. Bought a 6.0 gas. Used it on two trips and traded it for a Duramax.

Congrats. You'll love it.

Congrats. I had an 06 crew cab and it was the best truck I've ever owned (so far).

That's very good to hear! That is the main reason I bailed on GM. My last GM was terrible, the thing had more rattles and squeeks than a old school bus! CJ

As with all newer diesels, make sure your DEF fluid is clean. It can be contaminated by other liquids, containers, and certain metals. Be very cautious of def coming from someone else's container or bulk tank.

I have an '03 Duramax with 157K on it. Best truck I've ever owned, gets over 20mpg running back and forth to work, 23-24mpg highway, pulling a trailer with my L3400 Kubota with FEL & backhoe, mpg is about 13.

Good mileage, much better than the 6.0 would have gotten.

+1 the 6.0 I had was terrible, best I ever got was 14. All highway at 70 mph or less. Towing anything of any size was 7 or less, plowing heavy wet snow was like 3. The only + to that truck was plenty of power. That truck was sold very quickly! Be happy you got the D max! CJ

My College Roommate came over last night. He bought a 2015 2500 4x4 crew cab with the 6.0. His dash was showing 11.3. He pulled his 25' camper to Bristol and only got 6 mpg. I could not believe it was that terrible.

I for sure am pleasantly surprised with the mileage. Believe the factory brake controller and exhaust brake are going to make towing a pleasure.

I would leave my house heading to Canada pulling a pontoon [small one, single axle trailer] and by the time I got to Sault Ste Marie, the low fuel light would be on! 150 miles. Not good. It would take me 3 fill ups to do a 480 mile trip without pulling the boat back. If I pulled it back I would have to stop before I got to the house or risk running out of fuel. Yea it was that bad! That is awful. I can pull my 9,700# boat at 70 mph and get 9 mpg with my F150 Ecoboost. That gives me a comfortable 200 mile range with my 26 gallon fuel tank.

That is lousy mileage.

With my 5.4L Excursion and 4.10 gears I can get 10+ mpg while towing 7700 pounds at 65 mph.
Luckily the 44 gallon tank provides enough range to get "there and back" for most of my trips. The manufacturers of 3/4 ton trucks have no incentive to increase the efficiency of their v8 gas trucks because that would take away from their diesel sales.
