The purpose of politics is the distribution of wealth, sorry, I think the word "apolitical" never be suitable on any economist.

There was weakness on economy before Covid, I agree the Covid push the problem of economy. The problem is how to distribute the wealth, the gap between rich and poor, to fix it, need reform the distribution, or at least change it a little. Give everyone money won't fix the problem, only bring the inflation, and let more wealth go to rich one.

Back to market and tractor, what I see now is that people only buy what they have to, the buyers are watching and waiting, is it the bottom now? Who knows.... This is why someone prefer rent than buy now.
The Purpose of politics is to make politicians rich. Everyone of ours ,if not already such, comes out a millionaire
Also l for one believe it is of no business for the government to have anything to do with the “distribution of wealth”.
That kind of stuff only benefits the politician as he/she gets to keep their re-election bid in high gear with the more stuff they give to their constituents.

New car sales are also tanking because the automakers have priced themselves out of reach of the average citizen. I'd never pay 80 grand for any vehicle, just not worth 80 grand, never has been, never will be.
Remember the $3500 rebates they used to give? That meant the vehicle was priced $3500 too much.
Now they just let the government give you a $7500 check for falling for the ev crap.
l have to wonder how many of our pols are in the auto industry pockets.

Same here. I am driving my truck into the ground. I may even precede it!

Well I just got a call from my local JD dealer asking if I have purchased a tractor yet. Said he has a whole heep of inventory that they need to move. It's here and it's real now.
I wonder how long it will be before oversupply leads to price cuts. Or if it will.

A lot I'm sure. Just look at how Biden sucks up to the UAW to realize that.

That's the question. They went overboard with stimulation (too much and too long) and then started trying to apply the brakes slowly once they saw the amount and velocity of price inflation and where it would be headed if they didn't change course. Best analogy is like a terrible driver who goes off the road on one side, tries to correct, and then goes off the road on the other side but still wants us to think their driving skills are excellent.

I agree about pricing, but people are still buying. My neighbor is the sales manager for a large Toyota dealership. He told me that sales continue to be brisk and they can’t keep vehicles in stock. They are ordering months in advance for people. I can’t afford those prices, but apparently a lot of people are buying.

I think probably more than 50% of the people buying right now can't afford the new cars, they just don't know it yet. The difference between you and them is that you are smart enough to recognize it.

It's the interest more than anything that's raising the cost of cars, trucks, tractors, SXS's, motorcycles, etc. because 9 out of 10 buyers don't have the money to pay for what they want.

I'm afraid you are right. I know a young couple who bought a house they could afford to make payments on.
In a few years they sold it at a profit to buy a larger one - and that worked so well they did it yet again.
In the process they've gone from a reasonable position to a precarious one.

The town I live near was a booming town 50 years ago and is now that way again.
In between then and now there was a ten year period when buildings sold for the price of back utilities & taxes.

I'm of the opinion that is a natural economic cycle, it will happen again, and I think that too much debt will be the cause this time. I don't think that politicians can cause or deflect it. They might - with luck - postpone it a few years.

The government is always on your side.
Look how quickly they have protected you from inflatulation with this "Act" and that Act" and all for only a few trillion.
The more they fuel inflation, the more tax revenue they receive until that balancing act succumbs to consumer apathy.

Part of this is because in the west, we drive a lot of miles and replace our vehicles with 200-300K miles. When they’re wore out, they don’t have much resale and the only way to get rid of them is to trade for a new vehicle.

You can wear out a vehicle in 2-3K miles?

The "Acts" are just smoke screens for getting money out of the American public so they can funnel it into their own pockets. Using phony special interest, charitable organizations and initiatives.

They just dress it up with some terms that resonate with people. Then they can also say look what we did for the American public.

It's the reason these presidents and politicians are coming out of office so wealthy.
