My last Ranger had the 7ft long box option. With air shocks, it wasn't a bad little hauler that averaged 27mpg.

I sometimes use my Ranger instead of my company Silverado because it weighs 1500 lbs less so is less prone to drop out of sight in the mud, plus with the narrower track I can sneak between the ruts in a tired road. I put heavy duty springs on it and 10 ply Generals because the roads I drive tend to trash lighter weight tires. When I have the two trucks back to back the tailgates are at the same height, which is handy if I just want to back the snowsled off my work truck and leave it at home for the day.

Last week I used my F150 $2,000 special to haul off trees I was cutting down. The last one, maybe 9" diameter was leaning so I thought I'd pull it up roots and all. I hooked a tow strap to hitch ball, used granny gear 1st, 4x4 low, and pulled easy, maybe 1200rpm. Strap snapped!
Truck runs well, certainly worth $2K.View attachment 576802View attachment 576803View attachment 576804

No shortage of torques there...... olde school truck motor, and a 2 speed xfer case.... definitely need a more HD strap !

Wow! When I was truck shopping a couple of years ago I had my mind set on a Ranger. But in talking to a few people who owned one, they claimed overall mpg was only 18-19 mpg at best. So I ended up buying a new F150 because I wanted the best mileage possible (plus, used Rangers in good condition were bringing new Ranger prices because they were no longer made). Was yours a 4 cylinder/manual tranny?

My first one was a 2002 2.3L manual (27mpg) and the 2007 was a 2.3L auto (25mpg) with A/C.

My Samurai has been loaded with concrete sacks, firewood, broken concrete and never missed a beat...

Greatest powered wheelbarrow I have even owned!

Only paid a $1000 for it 22 years ago... worth ever penny and good mileage too.

The new Rangers will be out shortly after the new year. We are considering one and they are made in Michigan. Its 4 cylinder engine has around 250hp.

I keep getting sidetracked on my long range plan. Wife keeps the newer car, 2015 honda pilot. I have a 191,000 mile 2002 honda mini van for commute, pontiac vibe backup (my son calls it the stinky car because the gaggle of stray cats my former neighbor fed had a pissing turf war on it...) and carry whatever I can fit in them. Sell the 07 duramax silverado classic with 45,000 miles after I get the dodge ram 2500 cummins/auto roadworthy that I picked up in june for $1000. Sitting almost 7 years, it runs, drives and has front brakes now, many other issues on the list including repairing the tommylift gate that is on the back that works but leaks. Someone tried to steal it off the sitting truck sometime over last 7 years. Combine the 86 k20 diesel air force suburban with a bad engine,th400np208 (I got 2 replacment 6.2 diesels supposed to be good but ive swapped too many “good”engines in that werent good, in my time plus a banks turbo and 4l80e trans, might change if I get the right 6.5 i can hear running ), drivetrain and nice interior from 90 suburban k10 5.7 tbi 700r4 np241 rustbucket. Then cobble from remaining parts the 87 single wheel K30 pickup with 456 gears and lockers in differential that a volunteer fire department in Miss. raped and pillaged the drivetrain from, to be my farm truck. The olive drab green m1028 CUCV k30 chevy is more of a collectible and hope to sell but nobody here has any money. I sold the 90 model k30 crew cab diesel Six Pack alot of Air Force guys called them, with no ac, no overdrive and 4.11 gears to put towards the kubota rtv I purchased after moving here.

That wouldn't pay for a couple of new mirrors on many trucks!

I am going to the dealer this afternoon to have my $900 mirror installed and programmed. It's not a big fancy tow mirror either - just the base one. OK, it is power, and power folding, heated, and has a body color matched skin on it and LED marker lights. But still!!
