My wife was watching a TV show called Animal Rescue (or something like that) and part of the episode featured the rescue of a 650 lb pig that fell into a swimming pool. Acording to my wife, the pool looked like an above ground pool that the owners had turned into an inground version. My guess here is that the owner got a new tractor and was looking for an excuse to to use his backhoe and FEL. In any event, the water looked kind of green and slimey (my guess this was not in an "upscale neighborhood").

Initially, there were a few fellas standing around scratching their heads trying to figure out out to help this poor pig. They apparently tried to lasso the swine without success. Then they tried to get a rope around its snout just to keep it above water. This was not terribly successful either. Can someone say "Barbecue Time?". Interestingly, no one was willing to actually get in the pool to help the pig (my guess was the condition of the water or maybe they were intimidated by the size of the pig. As I didn't see the program, I can only speculate).

Well, eventually someone called the animal resuce folks. They decide that a tractor with a FEL is the equipment of choice for this project. Unfortunately (for the pig) they initially tried to extricate the beast by wrapping rope or chain around his torso and then attaching this to the FEL. Somehow when being lifted, the pig slid out of the "harness" and was dumped back into the pool. Things are not looking good for Porky. At least at this point, one of the rescue workers was in the pool with the pig and was in a better position to help. Finally, someone put on their thinking cap and decided to use the bucket for its intended purpose. They lowered the bucket into the pool, the resucue worker managed to roll Porky into the bucket and he was lifted to safety.

Apologies in advance if this story was already posted (did not search the forum for "Pig Rescue"), for the length of the post, and for any "minor inaccuracies" resulting from my not actually seeing the program.

As an aside, as I am trying to educate my better half on the merits of tractor ownership, by relating this story to me, she unwittingly supplied me with one more reason why we should get a tractor. When I informed her of this, she was quick to point out that there are no pigs in our neighborhood. To which I replied, "maybe not today..." Sad to say, but I don't think I gained any ground on this one.

Don't try pointing out that flower relocation would go really fast, either /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
