New User-A few Mahindra Questions

Hello Everybody,

Found this site a few days ago and have been doing a lot of reading. Decided to join this evening. Looks like a great group of knowledgeable folks here and I look forward to talking with you all.

I own a small cow/calf and hay farm in central Alabama (51 acres) and we run angus sired cattle, raise registered quarter horses and also have one APHA paint horse. We love the country life and our small farm.

Right now we are running a 1965 John Deere 2010 tractor on our farm but we are looking into purchasing a new tractor and have researched several brands. We have narrowed our choices down to a Mahindra 7520 4WD or a Kubota M6800. I have looked at both tractors and have brochures on both of them. We really like the Mahindra and feel like it has much more to offer in the way of features, especially for the money, than the Kubota.

One thing I have noticed as we have looked at several brands of tractors is the weight differences in the Mahindra over other brands. The Mahindra 7520 far outweighs any other tractor of comparable size that we have looked at. I like it having the extra weight because of the added traction it would have. Why do they weigh so much more than these other brands? Looks like to me these other brands would want to build a heavier tractor as well.

Also, for those of you who own Mahindras, how have you liked them so far? Are they meeting or exceeding your expectations? What about 7520 4WD owners? What can you tell me about this machine in particular? I really like what I have seen of it so far.

We are looking at purchasing the 7520 4WD with the ML275 loader, bucket, bale spear and with the quick attach adapter. I think this will be an awesome machine for our farm. Hope to post soon letting you all know it is here.Thanks in advance for any of your replies.

CuzPat62, unfortunately there seems to be only a few of us 7520 owners here at TBN, so I'm not sure how many responses you will get. Anyway, I have had mine for about a year now and it has been great /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I checked out tractors for over 2 years and came up with the same answer as you did. The 7520 is the best tractor of its size for the money. It is very very comfortable to operate all day long. The platform is roomy, all controls are easily accessible. When I was shopping, one thing that the other dealers always said was that they could add weight to get it as heavy as the Mahindra. That was fine, but what about after additional weight was added to the Mahindra, the subject was always dropped. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I'm a dealer, so I am biased. Just wanted to say that up front. I really like the 7520 4wd, and some reasons that stand out are the ergonomics, the well thought out additional lighting, the weight, the quick high volume hydraulics and the quick throttle response. It is just fun to drive. If I could keep a tractor or two at the house, it's be a 7520 4wd with a skid steer mount and a 4-n-1 bucket, plus a hydraulic box scraper with top and tilt. Then a 3215 HST for up around the house. Everyone should own a couple....

So Dave, how about that blue 3215 /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I've been thinking the exact same thing. I need a smaller tractor for clean-up also.

Welcome to TBN in general, and welcome to the Mahindra forum in particular. I can't comment on the 7520, but I have been very pleased with my 2615 4WD thus far. I got a couple hours of seat time this evening clearing some brush. I'd certainly like to see another Mahindra owner in Alabama, but I, like most here, would recommend that you find a dealer that you feel good about before even choosing a brand of tractor. Hopefully, you'll find a Mahindra dealer that will work with you and establish a good, long-term relationship. If it's not to far to travel, check out Artec Tractor in Navoo, AL (just north of Jasper on Hwy 5). From my experience thus far, I think they're a good, well established Mahindra dealer.

Be sure to keep us posted, especially if you do purchase the 7520.

I dont have a Mahindra yet, but I will probably be buying a 7520. Trouble is Im having a hard time finding one to look at around here. I am in a hilly area and have some concerns re tractor CG, stablity, and brakes. In your experience is the 7520 usable across slopes that a car would lose traction climbing? Can the rear wheels be set outward to give a stance wider than the 76.5" spec'd. What is the speed range of low and top gears? I appreciate your help in filling in these blanks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have a 6000 2WD so can't answer much about the 7520. I do know a farmer who traded a smaller Mahindra (6000 or 6500) for a 7520 4WD and like it so well that he traded his 2810 for a 2nd 7520, this one with 2WD, for his lighter work.

blbiii3, good luck finding one to look at in person, I had to buy mine sight unseen. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I would suggest that you fill your tires to lower the center of gravity. Yes it will have better traction sideways than a 2wd, about the same as a 4wd. It is not really a good idea to work sideways on much of any incline though. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif 75.4 inches wide with ag tires is max width according to my owners manual. 1st gear low range 1.04 mph @ 1400 rpm, 1.71 mph @ 2300 rpm. 4th gear high range 12.17 mph @ 1400 rpm, 20 mph @ 2300 rpm. As far as the brakes , I have had no problems of any kind, and they work very good when I use them. I don't use them all that much, just how I drive I guess. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yep, I am the one and the same "Cuz-Pat" from AlDeer.com! Great to see you here on this site. I am only about 45 miles from Artec in Nauvoo and that is where I will be purchasing my 7520. I am just waiting until I get back to work from this foot surgery before I go ahead and get it purchased. Hope that won't be too long! I can hardly wait until that day gets here. Have already dealt with a salesman there at Artec and they have given me the best price I can find on the machine. I have not spoken with a single displeased Mahindra owner as of yet. I really do like their products and it seems many others do as well! Hope to be joining the ranks of the pleased Mahindra owners real soon!
