John,
Thanks for the info. I'll pass it along to my buddy. He's pretty much given up on it. Maybe one of these websites will help him.

Ernie,
Yes the manaul was in Chinese and no translated version was available when he ordered that one. After seeing what he has gone through I would never own one. Around here the guys won't even touch them at any of the dealers.

Welcome to TNB John. Bravo for trying the unknown. Good luck on your choice. I have put in a new clutch and pressure plate on my ford 1700, have also rebuilt the engine. No big deal, not that complicated and I am only a "shade tree mechanic"

as far as an off brand chinese tractor, John is buying a big name chinese tractor. You can call up many dealers and get parts for these, sometines faster, and always cheaper than all the other jap brands. He will do fine. I liked the comment someone made about doing what you safely expect from your tractor.

Yes, Jinma is a big name Chinese tractor and are getting better every year. John Deere bought a stake in one of the chinese factories and a major Japanese tractor manufacturer just recently did the same. You don't suppose they see the writing on the wall... do ya. If they are of such poor quality why are these companies scambling to posistion themselves over there? The Chinese make more tractors than the rest of the world combined. How much do you want to bet that there aren't parts on your Japanese tractor made in China?

"The Chinese make more tractors than the rest of the world combined"

I heard this same claim from a dealer who sells tractors made in India about that country's tractor production. Who are you gonna believe?

I heard that the way you ID a pioneer is that the pioneer has arrows in his backside. Hope you dodge the arrows and have a happy productive time tractoring. I'm not a niponophile just thought I got a good tractor and as I can't really feel comfortable trying to be my own waranty station, I selected a unit with multiple local dealers and a good reputation but offered me more and better for the buck than that other foreign import tractor, John Deere. If I was a whiz mech, or braver, I might be drivin' Chinese ( I like the food, why not the tractor?)

It seems as though we are getting a few chinese tractor owners comming into this site. I gather that the CTOA board is no more.
Welcome to a great site. I might suggest that you take a little time to register, and fill out a profile. It would be nice to know a little something about you, and your tractor. If enough of you do, who knows mabe Muhammad will come up with a seperate topic for Chinese tractors/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

"I gather that the CTOA board is no more."

Yes and no. The CTOA is a loose confederation of owners and those interested in learning more about Chinese made tractors. Because it is a free association our "president" takes advantage of free services on the internet to keep costs to a minimum. The CTOA message board used to be on coolboard.com but in June they began charging a fee for the service and CTOA decided to relocate. The new board is up and running on worldcrossing.com but it is easier to get there by simply going to www.ctoa.net and clicking the link. Because we are starting over on this new server we lost over 2 years worth of posted topics so there aren't many posts yet.

It would be great if TBN added a Chinese Tractor forum, the more accurate, first hand information available about these tractors the better.

The CTOA board is live and well. The message board was down for some days, while Hal found another host for it.
I did not intend for this to become a #issing contest. Jinma owners, just like other tractor owners, will be defensive. The intent was to report back on my experience, good or bad, such that it would give some objective evidence, one way or the other. Prior to some of the recent posts, I had decided that keeping a logbook and other info will be better on its own website. Using a forum is not the best way to do that. This is my first website, so its going rather slowww. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Once the site is at least somewhat presentable, I will include it in my profile. Anyone interested can review at their leasure.

I will continue to help anyone that posts about specific Jinma questions, and of course participate in the other forums here. Someone considering purchasing a tractor, needs to evaluate everything before making a choice. The info I will provide on the website, is just a particular snapshot, for them to use.

Well, I finally got around to getting the webpage up. It is very rudimentary at this time. The only links that work are the Jinma dealers and tractor log. I don't even have my own pics there, yet. Anyhow, lots of room for improvement! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif See profile for link.
