New User Titles

Not to be a sourpuss, but aren't these titles just for fun antway? We all know each other pretty well by now, so I agree that a very simple system, one whose only real function is to identify the new members so we know who needs the most help, is the way to go.

PaulB,

I agree with most of what you said! But remember, just because someone's new doesn't mean that they need a lot of help. What if MarkC, Bird or Wen just joined...I think their knowledge would come with them, right?

I know that with the TC18 being my first diesel and first "tractor" that I have a lot to learn. I only have a lot of posts because I talk too much! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I would assume that with each new implement I add, or each new job I try to do with the tractor, I will have more questions.

Bird, I second no more new titles. Much prefer good, informative posts. I prefer the quality vs quantity. I can even stand a little humor once in a while. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I'm the new kid on the block but, I agree with ejb.

The TractorByNet is now, my first stop on the web. I enjoy the site, it's information and its member's.
Keep on, Keeping on.

PaulB, I agree with your comment, too. But I think part of what's being "rewarded" or particulary appreciated by me, you and others, is participation. I have the feeling there's quite a few folks who know a whole lot that they aren't sharing. I don't necessarily mean it's because they're selfish. They may not know about this board, or they may genuinely not have time. But for the ones that do take the time to help others without reward, they deservedly are appreciated and deserve the recognition that's so generously passed out here.

Muhammad,
Since this is the 3rd generation (at least) of this board, I wonder if you went back and counted the postings from the previous boards. I had a lot of postings on the two previous boards, but never became a registered user until this board.

While this board is probably the best of all, the first two boards were certainly (in my opinion) more "user friendly" to first-time users. The "Customized Options for Registered Users" on this board are really helpful for regular users, but don't help visiting "unregistered" users. When you switched to this board, I was very busy and didn't have the time to learn to navigate around it very well.

Have you considered acknowledgement of users based on the "calendar time" of participating as opposed to "quantity of posts"? In other words, a "one year" member, "five year" member an so on. Of course, depending upon how far back into the previous boards that you can still get user information, it may be a year or two before you could make any sense out the the "calendar time" distinction. I get a little concerned that the current titles may imply a level of expertise that may not exist (I don't think that problems acually exists, yet...so far the "heavy posters" seem to be very helpful and knowledgable)

Brainstorming Question: Would it be a good idea to put out a "New Members" post advertising the new members with limited information from their profile (such as tractor type)?
