New Well House Plans Wanted

I built this little "well house" from scrap and left over material. It more or less matches my full size shop (barn) with the gambrell roof.
Here is a pic of it being replaced after the tank had to be replaced a couple of years ago.

Jim, in a much more fridgid climates many water injection well heads that had no power source were covered with a fiberglass shell filled with staw. Aside from mice they did well.

It's amazing all the alternatives for protecting from freezing. I read on the internet last night where 18" bales of straw had a factor of R-35 insulating ability when they have 1 inch of mud spead on them like a plaster. If nothing else... I will do as someone suggested here... put bales of straw around the entire system and then put a piece of metal over it and put straw on top of the metal. This should protect everything if it indeed has an R factor of 35.

Very nice work. Did you pour concrete around your pump or what did you anchor the house to? Also is your well bored or drilled? Tell us more about your well. I saw two tanks, how many gallons per minute is your well? How deep etc. Looks like you have a nice spread there and maybe that is a Kubota.... Tell us more about your tractor as well :D

Great Workmanship!!

Do you have more pictures of construction? How about more of setting the well house?

Jim I don't have any more pictures. The frame was from scrap aluminum, got my son to weld it together. Wood framing was attached to aluminum. Then I had some 3/4" insulating board that I used to cover the outside. The red vinyl siding was left over from the shop/barn. I then framed the roof section, took it to my sheet metal man and had him apply the metal roof. Then the roof section was bolted to the wall section. I only have one tank, the other one had the bladder burst and this was after replacement when I was re-setting the house over the DRILLED well 230 feet, hit rock, pump installed at 185 feet, 30 gal/min. It runs most of the time. I keep a slow run to keep the pond full. The pic is at the pond, did not want to have a plain pipe running so we started gathering rocks and built us a "mountain spring" to keep the pond full.

You Know Jim....

Egons' idea of hay bales and your mentioning of the plaster got me to thinking. You could take wire lath for stucco and tie it to exterior face of the bales with coat hangers as spikes into the hay and stucco the outside and paint it. For a roof you could use old pallets, give them a slight pitch, put metal on top and screw it to the pallets and stuff hay in the center of the pallets. On the front you could get some old bi-fold doors and cut them to fit to make doors. you could mount the bi-fold doors to a couple old pieces of plywood to seal up the back side of the bifold for weather purposes. You could use a couple of old garden hand tools as handles for the doors.

Sorry....I had a bubble and had to let it out.

There are plans out for buildings constructed of bales.

Many years ago one of our farm neighbours had a barn made from bales. Another fellow had a covered practice ropping run made from bales.

For some years our farm hoghouse was a strawpile blown up with a thrashing machine.

I built a well house / garden shed - just finished -- I built the back corner so it could be removed easily to work on the well. cost about $2k -- but I wanted to use the vertical cedar here as a test before I used it on the house we want to build in 3 years.

The well was installed (drilled) at over 60 gallons per minute now... it has actually been tested now at nearly 80 gallons per minute. Not sure why it increased but I am glad it did. It was installed to irrigate our Food Project to help others. You can see the last few posts about the Food Project here http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63526&page=99.

We are still looking for someone with a trencher to help install the system. Maybe we could trade for a trencher or something. If anyone has a lead to getting a trencher please contact me at bsm357@aol.com

I have attached a picture of the well and tank.

Thanks,

Jim
