Thanks for the info. I used the new Prestone 50/50 mix and dilluted with distilled water, but I threw the jug away. I don't remember seeing a chart on it, but I will look when I buy more coolant and oil.

I don't have my manual handy, but I believe the 2000, which should be the same is only 1 gallon.

The truth is, I never checked the coolant. I replaced the coolant early last winter with the 25/75 mixture when I put the block heater in the lower radiator hose, and haven't messed with it since. I don't have a checker, but now that I know how close I am flirting with disaster, I will definitely get one SOON. I need that tractor to till this spring, and I am still hauling fire wood.

I just wanted to update the progress for the benefit of outhers who may experience this problem. I started up the engine from cold and ran it about 5 minutes the temp light came on again. I placed a thermometer in the radiator and measured a temp of 140 degress. I drained the cooling system and filled it with cold water and the temp light remained on. I was pretty much convinced by then the temp sensor must be bad. I flushed the cooling system with Prestone flush and replaced the coolant with a 25/75 coolant/distilled water mixture. I started up the engine from cold and ran it about 5 minutes the temp light came on again.The engine was definetely not hot. I again and measured a watertemperature of 140 degrees. Having satisfied myself the the engine was not overheating I ran the tractor for about 30 minutes using my box blade while carefully monitoring the engine. It was funning fine. I shut it off and place the thermomoter in the radiator again and measured a temp of 205.

I have a ordered a temp guage from Hoye and hopefully will install it next weekend if I can figure out how to cut the hole in the dash without scratching it up.

u need a good metal hole saw... find out what dia hole u need go to lowes or home depot and ask for a metal hole saw!

They attach to ur drill..... easy as pie or pi......

Autozone carries 1 1/2" gauges that will fit in your existing holes. They come in a triplet set and you can use them all, about $30 plus about $5 for an adapter kit.
