Hello,

I'm pretty new to tractors in general so I'm looking for a little advise.

My acerage is hilly and treed so I'm after a 4wd tractor, but I am not going to do much "farming"... My main use would be to lift/stack/move 900+lb round bales for my horses plus some manure cleanup, snow plowing, landscaping etc etc Maybe in the future pound fence posts...

I'm looking to buy used and have around $6000 cnd to spend... :ashamed:

What I am seeing around here is some pretty old tractors in the papers.

Here's some of the ones I've located.

1986 Belarus 800, PTO, Loader, $7000 4x4? HP?

Belarus 420, 4x4, 50hp 2000hrs $7000

Case 730 Comfort King, Loader, snow blade, bale spike $4500 seller says 4x4 85hp

Fordson Super Major, 63hp, 3pt, loader, parts tractor, $3500 4x4?

International B250, 3pt, $5000 4x4? HP?

Massey Ferguson 50hp, loader, 3pt, rebuilt, $4950 4x4?

1970 Case David Brown, Loader, PTO, 3pt, $5950 4x4?? HP?

1985 Case 1690, 90hp cab, needs tires, boom mower, $6500 4x4?

I guess I don't really know what I'm after or if these are any good for us.

and advise would be great!

Welcome!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

On the used tractors make sure your choice has an available source for parts. 4x4 may be nice in the winter for moving bales and clearing snow.

Otherwise the condition of the tractor and price will be the determining factors. Look at as many as possible.:D

Do some online research and ask questions...Since you'll probably be doing some work tractor wise in the hilly part of your spread, be sure and get one with, or add, a ROPs and seatbelt to it, if it's not equipped so already...I'm sure others will chime in here...Great resource is TBN...Good luck and welcome.

Thanks for the replies!

ROP? Roll over protection?

My problem is lack of selection there really isn't anything available around here in my price range... Especially 4x4 models!

I have read a few things and talked to some friends who said the Belarus tractors are not very good so the only 4x4 models I have in my area are a couple of Universal tractors for around 8-10 grand, but have been told parts might be pricey...

The old Case 730 Comfort King seems like my best option so far but it is OLD!

I'm not experienced with tractors but something 40-50 years old sounds dicey.

Anyways.... Thanks agian. I'll keep reading. Need somehtig soon tho, have them round bales coming sooner or later hehehe

Hello,

International B250, 3pt, $5000 4x4? HP?

I guess I don't really know what I'm after or if these are any good for us.

and advise would be great!

I have an Inter B250 tractor.
Rated about 35HP
Only 2 WD.
Circa 1955 - early 1960's
Great old tractor. No mod cons but very easy to repair (not that it needs much repairing). Honest workhorse.
Use it nearly everyday in my vineyard.
Price seems way to high?
In Oz the are valued from $1500 to $2000 for a good working one.
If you are after a tractor with a loader make sure you get one with power steering.

regards

Thanks again for the replies!

Well after looking at the Case 730 Comfort King (old tired and 2wd) we were wondering if there was anything out there for us, we were about to give up on 4wd and settle for a two wheel drive.

A friend who was helping us decide got a tip from his son in-law on a tractor and we decide to grab it since the selection was so weak here and as mentioned, prices were very high for old tractors!

We purchased a 1989 Universal 445 DT with a FEL and attachable snow plow.
-4wd, power steering, 45 HP ... Cost us $6350 CDN Delivered for $100!

It has a few issues, few drips here and there, needs a new muffler, doesn't turn right so well... but I'm hoping I can fix her up.

Just have to find a bale spike for it and we're in business! Oh and some ROP!

Not much for info on here for this tractor but I'm hoping it is still a good resource for maintenance and repairing things.

Thanks again for the advice!
