I cut my neighbors grass since her husband is a deadbeat, cheat, and a real louse.....he is also one of our firefighters and ems.

Her boyfriend comes around, but is no help. He has one thing in mind. Her son is useless as can be.

Now her sons girlfriend is living with them.....free, parked her broken car in the drive.

I need to cut the grass but there is this new fancy bicycle in the yard, probably in the 200.00 range, and there are several cases of beer (I have no problem with drinking, just pay your responsibilities first). What is there could in fact buy a good used mower.

Should I continue to take it on the chin.........oh with all I have done at my place, I have never had one offer of help, even though they can see the whole side of my barn and the work I have to do there without help. The mother is a nice lady, I feel for her, but sometimes I think I am being the enabler, and not doing her a favor, but hurting her.

advice please

Sounds to me like your neighbor's husband is the smart one. He's getting free lawn care from you. Stop doing it, and he'll have to get off his lazy butt.

I think Homer Simpson says it best: DOH!

Of course you are being an enabler. You are enabling all sorts of bad behavior. Let their grass grow. They can mow. If they don't, then call on the city/county government for a little assistance and complain of rodents and a general nusience their yard creates.

There is a difference between being a good neighbor and a sucker.

If they are trying and you give them a hand, or you do somthing that they are unable to do, then that is a neighbor.

If they aren't doing anything and you are expected by them to do somthing that they are unWILLING to do, then you are a sucker.

You make the call.

Its hard because I am the kinda guy that will bend over backwards for a neighbor. Until they prove to me that they are taking me for granted. I'll do the same thing, plowing snow and the like, as long as THEY are there trying. If they wont give it a try, or I really need a hand and I know that they have a skill or item that I dont and all I hear is birds chirping, then its over.

I dont mind doing the cutting for them, that is not the point. The point is that there is now an expensive bike there, a case of beer that is out to trash.........

I have been busting my butt at my place, and they know it, there is no offer to help and no offer to even come out and move the trampoline so I can mow around it.

Me thinks the bf is going to have to learn to cut grass.

Oh the husband is not living there, he is living with his very young girlfriend.........

I would recommend stop mowing. If they notice and care, someone will ask why you stopped. Let them know how you feel.

I had an empty lot next to me back in Texas, that would grow to about 2 ft tall with brush. Most of the homes were built in the neighborhood, but this guy was in no hurry to build. So the guy on the otherside of his lot & I would play dueling mowers and mow about an acre to clean up the field between our houses. My reasoning was to reduce the fire risk. My neighbor didn't like the rats that lived in the field. Anyway, the landowner found out, & quickly put up a no tresspassing sign and stated we were not welcome on his land. After sharing our vacant neighbor's reaction with the homeowner's association, they sent him a note stating he will be billed for maintaining his property in accordance with the bylaws. He learned the hard way, because what he once got for free, he had to pay for someone to mow every other week. Oh yeah, his no tresspassing sign had to come down also. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I would stop mowing for the rest of the season. Once the winter gets here, there will be nothing to mow. In the spring, they will see the grass getting higher and will either mow it or they will just ignore it. These type of neighbors are a blight on society and no matter what you do, it will never be the correct thing. They are the leaches that just suck until there is nothing left. Put up a fence and forget them. In the end, they will not appreciate what you have done and will bad mouth you because of it. Maybe if you are lucky, they will carelessly dispose of a cigarette and the grass will go up in smoke.......... along with the trampoline....

Thanks Guys,

I do appreciate your input, and it is right on. I am more than welcome on either piece of property, the one to the side or the strip of land behind me. While the neighbor will not like the outcome, I dont like the situation with her being able to afford bikes and beer while I put my 23 on the task of cutting her grass. This is also the propery that I got into the hornets nest on.........they did not come to check on me then either. I am going to hate telling her that I have decided to quit cutting the grass. I really dont like being a butt head, but I really dont see them doing anything to change their situation. I do see the bf truck there this morning again. Did I mention his son has a go cart (new) and a dirt bike (new). Again something could have been done to get a lawnmower, although I doubt that it would be used.

thanks again guys, your advice is right on!

Why would you think that they would buy a lawn mower when they have free lawn service. When you stop cutting the grass, then they will have a reason to purchase a lawn mower. Until then it would just be another lawn ornament for you to mow around..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
