Sky,

Any news to report on the L39? I'm checking for fresh info daily (hourly to be honest....in a training session in outside Boston) I need a fix. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

LOL Jim! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm still in the early mode of customizing and individualizing my rig now that it has 40 hours on it. This weekend my 4 year old grandson is coming over for the Spring Botanical Garden Festival and he loves my tractors so he and I will do some work together breaking in the L39.

Last night I installed my little Fiskars hatchet (14" handle and 7/8" thick axe head) by drilling into the left hand side of the empty dashboard above the clutch pedal to mount my quick-attach hatchet holder. It comes in handy allot whilst various land clearing projects and is right in my hand as I step off the machine.

I also installed a Fiskars Splitting Axe with 24" handle and 2 1/2" thick axe-head up against the right rear ROPS member and attched it to the ROPS with some 12" nylon ties. A Stihl foldable portable wood ripsaw is attached to the FEL hydraulic line on a carbiner for easy access too. The Stihl 028 20" chainsaw fits nicely on the BH deck too.

Our L39 did not come with a horn, but it does have a functional horn button on top of the headlamp switch. I was able to locate the white plastic horn outlet down on the wiring harness adjacent to the inline diesel fuel pump and mounted an electric horn onto the engine compartment firewall back up against the fuel tank. It is an old fashioned "AHH OHHH GAA" type of horn. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Some advice to you too, be sure to remove the BT1000 BH plastic cover and tighten down and lubricate all the numerous valve controller fittings (8mm, 10mm, and 12mm open end wrench) and then lubricate them good. Many of mine were not assembled inline properly and none of them were lubed properly, so I covered the entire mechanisms with white lithium spray grease to insure their longetivity. That is about the only thing that I have been able to find on this beast that needed any real attention, and after tightening and lubing all the sloop in the joysticks was removed.

I also ordered a super heavy duty 1 1/2" toothbar from Carver's for the TL1000 FEL bucket, it should be here soon. I snapped off a tooth on an oak tree trunk on our L-3130 with the LA723 loader that I got that has 1" shanks, so wanted to be sure that I got an extra heavy duty unit this time around.

I'd also like to thank Ronnie Bowman at TractorSmart for providing the LTB39 parts manuals for the L39, TL1000 FEL, and BT1000 BH, that is a great assest, especially when the Kubota USA website still has no mention of the L39 model (got some oil filter, hydraulic filters, Kubota Moly EP grease, and Kubota SuperUDT from him too, as well as some metric grease fittings! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I am getting a new tiltmeter for the dash too.

I'm very impressed with this stout workhorse, the three cylinder engine is very smooth and extremely economical to operate, over 14 hours on <5 gallons of fuel and a pile of stumps ~15 high already! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

P.S. Check out this nice little BH thumb:

Skypup, Thanks for those pictures. By the looks, it appears that the tractor is smaller that your 3130. I am waiting to see a new L39, a dealer near me thinks he will have one available on Monday, 3/28. I would like to see a L39 before i make my final decision to change my order from the L35 to the L39. I have heard all kinds of responses from several dealers regarding the size. Some say it is larger than the L35 and others say it is the same size as the L35. Hopefully, next week, I will see one for myself. Any updates on your L39?

It is much more stout and compact than my L3130, there is no doubt in my mind that when you actually see an L39 and an L35, you will choose the L39, unless for some reason the L35 is super discounted, which I highly doubt.

I am planning on changing out the engine oil and filter this weekend at the 50 hour mark with Amsoil PAO Full Synthetic 10W-40 and the hydraulic oil and filters (2) with Kubota SuperUDT. The L39 has two hydraulic oil filters in series, same part number as the L-3130.

Thom, what is Amsoil PAO 10W40 oil? Why use it over 15W40 or even 10W30 as the Kubota manual recommends? Just curious. I really like the little 3 cylinder engine in my L3830. Smooth and quiet with just enough deep tone to make me sound important. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Rat, Amsoil PAO 10-40 is a top of the line full polyolefin synthetic diesel motor oil and I have been using it in my two turbocharged Volkswagen TDI direct injection 1.9 liter engines for the last eight years, changing out once a year (ie ~15,000 miles). BTW, neither turbodiesel engine has consumed a measurable drop of oil inbetween yearly changes for a combined 16 years of use and that record of unmatched high quality is simply AMAZING!!!

I have also been using the exact same oil in my three KTM 640 Adventure motorcycles for ten years now, changing out once a year (~10,000 miles of 150 hours on the hour meter).

So, I am also using it in our 2004 Kubota 3130, our 2005 ZD-21, and our 2005 L39 simply because it is an extremely high quality motor oil and I can use it in most of my equipment, making changes, purchases, etc. very simple.

I did a few motor oil analyses on extended change outs in the TDI engines and this oil is full capable of going much further than what I am using it for in the diesel engines without significant degradation. Also, I have had no clutch deterioration in my hardcore KTM motorcycle transmissions whatsoever and after trying many other competitive motor oils in this application, none of them made the grade.

It simply is an outstanding motor oil that I can utilize in a wide variety of heavy duty applications without worry or hassle, even if I extend the oil change outs a little longer.

See if this links works to their main site:

Amsoil 10W-40 Synthetic Motor Oil

(note: this is not their motor oil made specifically for motorcycles)

They have a new 5W-40 formualtion out that I may consider changing over to, but basically the old 10W-40 that I've been using for so long has worked extremely well for me.

Sky,

Is the 5W-40 formualtion the "european" blend and why are you considering moving to that formula.....?

Can't believe you have almost 50hrs on her already /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Mine is still at the dealer waiting for front hydraulic valves and the 24" bucket. I still have snow here, but it would be fun to get a few hours on the hoe soon! The latest from the dealer is that she should be ready for delivery on April Fools Day. I have a feeling what the dealer will say come April 1st /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The new 5W-40 is indeed the European Blend and it meets much higher ACEA specifications for European turbodiesel applications than ANY US API technical specs could ever hope to meet (turbodiesels run wide open 90% of the time on the Autobahn, I know as I've driven turbodiesels on the Autobahn @ over 220km/hr for hours and hours).

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/afl.aspx

It has even a lower Noack Volatility than the 10W-40 I've been using (even superior PAO basestocks)and is one of very very few US products to even come close to meeting ACEA turbodiesel Euro oil specs.

It is the only other oil I would consider for my uses.
