I remember being on a tieback job in Walnut Creek California. It was for a 3-story underground parking garage. We were drilling and driving 27-inch I-beams 120-feet long for the soldier pile. Some how one of the beams got bent. The project superintendent came up with the great idea of walking a excavator on top of the beam grabbing one end with the bucket and picking up. I told him I could straighten the beam with heat. He had never heard of such nonsense. Well the beam started out with a bow in it, when the excavator got through with it, it had a huge S in it.
The superintendent came and got me, and said fix it!
