Tractor
Mahindra Max 28 HST
Hi guys, new to the forum. Just bought a new/used Mahindra max 28hst with 500 hrs. Had a neighbor over the other day and he decided to sit on the tractor. When getting off, he got himself stuck on the loader control stick and was basically hanging there with all his weight. So now my controls for lifting the bucket up and down are very stiff, almost jammed and will not release without excessive force. I took some of it apart, but am I able to open it up without removing the whole unit and replace whatever has broken? It says Nimco controls on the tag (1344-25) but can't find anything online. Here is a picture from my tractor and any help would be great, thanks. IMG_3382.JPG

Nimco offers little support.

The problem is only on lift? Does curl work properly?

If it is only on the lift spool, which spool is for lift? I see some marring on the second spool that does not look normal.

My SWAG is something that is visible in the photo is slightly bent. I don’t think some deep internal part is bad.

Yes, the tilt works like it should. I originally thought he bent the shaft going into the main control but odds are he broke something inside. That scoring doesn稚 go in the main body. The one that lifts the loader is the top right.

I guess the closest one looking at the picture

Feel stupid saying it, but I tried to bend it thinking it was that. Didn稚 really put a lot of pressure on it until I realized it was a stupid idea and decided to do some research. Did it while the spool was out and it doesn稚 affect it at all. My bad

The chances he bent a spool with joystick is slim to none. A wrench on the spool has a better chance but still unlikely.

Do not feel bad, I have done much worse and then say well that was stupid.

Will it stick or just hard to move? I agree with RNeumann, most likely something is binding a little with the pivot block.

It pretty much just sticks both ways and does not retract like it痴 supposed to. Very hard to move as well. I知 sure if I use it the way it is, it will most likely bend the bolts over time. I can稚 see anything when looking at the block. If I take off the block, will it be like opening a Swiss watch where I値l be trying to figure out a puzzle?

Taking of the block is not an issue. The spools are not going to spring out. Try unbolting the lift spool. You might see it center as you undo the bolt.

Ok, I will take it apart and check it out. Thanks for all your help. I will let you know how it makes out.

It痴 pretty much center right now. I do have a couple of bolts already taken off so it might look a bit off. The binding is coming from the inside of the block. I just wasn稚 sure if taking that off was a good idea.

Then the next place I would look is under the cap on the other end of the spool. That is where the springs are. Maybe one of the springs broke? It surprises me that something internal is causing the issue but I have never put that much force on a joystick before. Nothing real complicated about working on a valve. You will be fine.

Thanks again. I figure he weighs about 190lbs and he pretty much fell with all his weight on it and got stuck through his pant loop. No more sitting on my tractor! Don稚 know why he sat on it in the first place.

On and off via the left side only......

Loose clothing, button shirts, short pants, laced footwear, don't belong on a tractor.

I suspect this rod or one of the other 2 is bent.IMG_7117.JPG

Looks some rods ends moved on the pins, therefore causing misalignment on all three rod ends. This would cause binding on the lift/lower spool.

I've converted two valves over to joystick. The alignment is critical.

Here is a picture where I drew some arrows that show, to me, what is the issue.

I believe you are on to something. Looking closer at the connecting rod for the second spool it looks bent outwards. That makes sense because it would have put pressure against the spool and is the weaker of the two metals. Now when trying to move the spool it would not pull straight. Probably could just flip it around and it would work again. This would put the pull point closer to the spool.

Thanks for the replies everyone. The rods might look misaligned but thats because I have already removed the bolts. The pins slide freely and pivot on little slip over ball bearings. I had to work all yesterday but I will take that cover off and let everyone know today.

I ended up having to take the controls right off the tractor. here are some pictures. The right side is jammed and wont move without excessive force. There is a picture of the back end as well. Would I have to take this apart to get to the springs?image1.jpegimage1.jpegimage3.jpeg
