Nissan Titan Cummins

I thought that Ford was going to put a small diesel in there F150's? I also heard, years ago, that Toyota was going to put Caterpillar engines in there trucks too. Guess that isn't going to happen anytime soon either.

I'd be interested in a diesel like this. I personally still personally struggle with the other brands that are not US owned. I guess Dodge isnt either(Fiat?)... So continued goes America... No steel in Pittsburgh, the new SF Bay Bridge is being made in China and shipped on barges. And I can't find an electronics job because they are overseas now...

I understand what you are saying but hey, the Titan is made in the US. I would bet it has as many American workers man hours put into it than the other 1/2 ton pickups if not more. About 2 years ago they had a article in USA today and the Tundra was the most "American Built" 1/2 ton followed by the F-150, Titan, GM, and Ram finishing last. Yes, I know the argument that the profits are sent back overseas but this is about putting people to work.

I am a proud Titan owner. When I bought it in 2008 it was in my opinion the best 1/2 ton truck on the market. Today, 2011, I would go back with the F-150.

This is good news, and something I have been thinking about and waiting for for a long time... I wish The Big 3 and Toyota would follow suit, but I won't be holding my breath.

There a better than even chance I'd buy one.

It has long been rumored that Nissan would bring a diesel mid size SUV to the North American Market, right now there are just the German high end SUV, wonder if this is the motor for that? The Volkswagen Touareg being the most affordable but still out of my range.

If the engine is a cummins "B" and has a Turbo, i bet it will be a success. My old S-10 had a Isuzu with 62 hp. no turbo, and made 33 mpg mixed driving, but was woefully slow on take-off. It will need overdrive to survive, and diesels kill a lot automatics.

Toyota would only use a CAT engine if they thought the name would bring them sales. They already have a diesel that could easily be dropped in to a Tundra. Plus they have HINO and Isuzu so a third brand of engine really isn't needed. At the end of the day it has to make sense and look like it could turn a profit.

I like this concept, but have paid for and oil change or regular maintenance on a diesel and quickly realized any fuel savings is eaten up quickly...

Keep in mind, a little 4-cylinder diesel will not take the 3 gallons of motor oil these large V8's use or an oil filter the size of a muffler.
