Re: No. 7 fronthoe???

Base plate: 3/8" thick, 4" x 7 1/4" Baseplate u bolts are offset from center of baseplate: first hole 1 3/8" from inside side of plate edge, outside hole is 3 3/8" from inside edge of baseplate. U bolts holes start 5/8" back from front edge of baseplate. U bolts are wrapping around the 2 1/2" square steel tubing that carries the FEL. Baseplate inside edge is 2 5/8" from tractor frame rail, extending 4" out on the 2 1/2" square stock from there.
Outer hole: 1.145" diameter Pin: 1.125"
Inner hole: .885" diameter Pin: .875"
Hole center is 1 5/8" down from the top of the baseplate, about 1 1/4" down from bottom of baseplate.
Mounting ears are 1 3/8" apart, inside to inside. Ears are 1/2" steel. Outer ear is bent to outside at bottom, overall it is 3 1/2" from bottom of ear to bottom of baseplate. Inner ear is 2 7/16" from bottom of base plate to bottom of ear. The inner ear measures 3 1/2" from its inside to the tractor frame rail.

Picture 416 shows the bent outer ear best.
Picture 417 is an angled from the rear shot, with an optical illusion making the inside u bolt look like it comes thru at the nearest corner. The mmm mounting in the background is distracting too. This picture sucks.
Picture 418 shows the bent outer ear and the u bolts.

The u bolts are somewhat offset from the baseplate to avoid the ears underneath; therefore there is a left and right mirror image baseplate. You can see how far from the inside edge the 1st u bolt is from the baseplate edge( about 1 3/8" inches in picture 415.

Many thanks!!

Re: No. 7 fronthoe???

Ok rabtfarm, one more dimension please. There is a link that attaches to the tractor's top link mount... the other end has two pin holes in it. Could you measure the center to center distance of the pin hole at the tractor's mount and either of the other two holes?

Thanks

Well, looks like I've had a stroke of luck. I started inquiring into the back story on this hoe with the seller. The tractor and hoe used to belong to the seller's neighbor's sister's husband. When he passed, his sister gave the tractor and hoe to him. He had no use for the backhoe and sold it to the guy I bought it from. From what the seller (guy I bought it from) told me, his neighbor is not the most mechanically inclined, so he just brought the tractor over and the guy I bought if from remove the hoe. Since he was not intending to use it on a JD tractor, he didn't think about removing the front mounts as he had no use for them. To make a long story short, I got the phone number of the neighbor that used to own the hoe and gave him a call. He still has the tractor and the front mounts are still bolted to the loader bar. He said I could have them, so I offered to remove them for him. I'm supposed to go over there tomorrow sometime and get the mounts. That saves me quite a bit of money/time.

Re: No. 7 fronthoe???

Center to center looks like 8 3/4". (If the link is still missing too). There is a second link hole(longer) but it is not used in my set up.

Thanks. That link was also cut in half and modified when I bought the backhoe. I've got put back where I thought it should be (best guess) and it is considerably shorter than that. Anyway I could get you to double check or confirm that measurement? I don't want to weld it back together at the wrong length.

You should be using that second hole as well. Once you get the link pinned to the tractor, you're supposed to put another pin through that second hole. This locks the link making it rigid between the tractor and the backhoe. Without that second pin, the link will just hinge in compression.

Score!!!

I met up with the previous previous owner tonight and removed the front hangers from his 855. He had it all set up for me on a concrete floor with a sheet of plywood laid on the floor and drop light under the tractor. Took less than 10 minutes and saved me a bunch of time and money.

I've got the subframe welded back together and the toplink bar prepped and ready to be welded.

Won't be long now and I'll actually get a chance to mount this thing and play with my new toy.

Finally got a break from this blasted 100+ degree heat. Got the top link welded back together.

Still waiting on a couple of miscellaneous parts from JD to show up... then I will be able to mount up the hoe and move it into the barn so I can get to work converting the controls from ISO to SAE.

Made some more progress tonight... my parts came in from JD and I got the mounts bolted up and hung the subframe to align the front mounts and make sure it was all going to fit up right after welding the subframe halves back together. Fit like a glove. I just need to bolt the subframe back to the backhoe and I'll be ready to mount it up. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do that tomorrow night.

Hi all
Curious roughly how long it takes you all to install / remove the #7 backhoe?

She's a good lookin' hoe, isn't she...

It took me a while, but I finished putting assembling the 7BH tonight and got it mounted. I had to drop the subframe, then go hook up the BB for ballast. Picked up the hoe with the loader and move it off the pad I had it stored on and set it down by the subframe. Then go drop the BB and remove the 3pt hitch arms. Pulled the tractor up to the hoe and hooked up the hydraulics so I could use the boom, bucket and stabalizer to position the hoe correct to facilitate bolting up the subframe. Then the unhooked the hydrauilics and moved the tractor out of the way so I could bolt up the subframe. Once that was done, I was ready to actually mount the hoe for the first time.

Mounting the hoe was incredibly simple, easy and quick. Back the tractor over the subframe, hook up the hydraulic lines, use the boom and the stabilizers to raise the hoe up to line up the subframe with the rear hangers, back the tractor up to engage the subframe with the rear hangers, raise the boom to pivot the front of the subrame up to engage the front hangers into their brackets, install the front hanger pins, move the toplink into position and pin it place. Done. Took five minutes or less to mount the hoe... probably took me longer to type out the process than it did to mount it.

I'm definately going to have to put my tall rops back on though. When I got the tractor, it had the tall rops on it but since I didn't have a BH, I took it off and swapped on a regular rops. When I sit on the BH seat there is about a 1/2" between the top of my head and the bottom of the rops... that's a headache waiting to happen.
