Oh, I think you all love this - I finished my driveway today and happened to see my neighbor starting out a with a snow shovel with 200 foot of driveway and the snow was 2 feet deep and more. So i went over and helped him out, about 4 passes and I had cleared his driveway, and then I went to help him on his turnabout flat top and all of a sudden i saw that familiar yellow stain in the snow - hydraulic fluid - Well one of the hoses from the hydro blade to the the tractor got punctured/cut. So that stopped all help at that point So i am gonna order the hose from JD on Monday morn. Snow is coming again and I hope to have the new hose installed before that happens.

Anyone got any ideas on how to better shield those hoses?

Wouldn't that have happened anyway regardless of where you were ?

Yes, but it would have happened a bit later ;)

Actually I was going into an area I would have normally shoveled a bit to see what was in there first. Being a little tired from helping my kids finish shoveling (this missed an entire porch by accident:mad:), I got a bit lazy and decided to drop the blade into the middle of the snow - something I never do out of fear of putting the hoses in contact with snow that had not first been broken up by the blade, so i think after I did that a couple of times i got unlucky and made contact with a hard and sharp chunk of ice and punch.

So it is really my fault:rolleyes:

I know that ice can be hard, but hard enough or sharp enougn to damage a reinforced hydraulic line ?

Could have been a rock, but there is a slit/hole in the hose?

Which hose? Most of them are well protected...and there is steel in the hoses. Is it possible it was pinched where the blade pivots because snow pushed it where it wasn't supposed to be?

Anyway...Stay away for JD for this repair-look in the phone book under "hydraulics" and find a local shop to make you a new hose. Take the old one with you.

Slide a piece of electrical green field over the hose to protect it.

I had porcupines chewing my hoses on my tractor it slowed them down a little.

DHH and your local shop will have various covers you can put over the hose also. The spiral wrap is good stuff.

Are you sure it was the ice and not the neighbor cutting it because you didn't do a good enough job clearing his driveway? Sometimes people think that way... I had some not too close neighbors that thought that way for a while, till I let their "snow" build up to an unbearable height. (actually it was a dirt road and I let the pot holes grow)
Hopefully you picked up a replacement from a local hydraulic shop and are back in business. Did your neighbor offer to help with the replacement cost of the hose? If he did, or does something else as a return favor, it often takes away the pain of helping out your neighbors, something I often try to do.

You know i thought about that. I would imagine there are a few hydraulic shops around.
