Gary, I checked, but don't have any record of the part number of the joystick. Surely your dealer can cross-reference the part. When they replaced mine, they included a new plastic cover and switch assembly so I'm pretty sure that is included if your dealer orders a part. He may choose to take the shaft off a tractor in his inventory, replace yours, then put a new one on order. My dealer offered that solution, but I was in no hurry and waited for the part to be shipped. Let us know how it turns out.

I think I've found the weak link though!! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
Time to call the dealer back... 130 hrs this time. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif
Maybe NH has figured this problem out by now. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Sorry about your joystick, Gary. Believe me, to quote a former President, "I feel your pain." Here is an illustration attached which shows how I temporarily fixed my joystick. Actually, it's been fixed /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif this way for 200 hours and I've experienced no more problems. It ain't pretty, but it works. If New Holland would just re-engineer that piece of bar stock with the screw holes in it, the problem would go away. It's not rocket science, but evidently, it's not New Holland science either./w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif I hope you get your's fixed soon.

jinman, yes I followed your temp fix thread, and one more time and I'll probably go that way. I email NH corp asking them if they had found a permanent fix for it.

But I suspect this is one of those things that a company would spend 100k on a study to see if a re-design is cost effective or if just replacing the one that break is cheeper in the long run.

I can't believe that I abuse this joystick more than too many others, so NH should have seen a trend by now/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif.

Are only the tc35D-45D boomers using this type of joystick?

thanks

AAARRRGGGHHHH! I have 280 hours on my TC45D and am on No-Joy-Joystick number 3!

Refering to your diagram, the last one that I broke I had a friend of mine weld up. He thickened and strengthened it with extra weld material up past the bottom bolt hole where they always break. I also have a backup new one in case the welded one fails.

This is what is refered to as VEing (Value Engineering)

"Value engineering" is exactly what I thought when I first saw my broken joystick. Now I think it's "no brain engineering" since if they had just used a longer rod and eliminated the welded piece of flat metal, this problem could have been avoided. It would simplify the manufacturing process since they would eliminate one part (the flat bar) and one manufacturing operation (welding). There would still be room for the turtle-rabbit switch wire and the whole assembly would be much stronger. As a matter of fact, the non-DEElux models have the round rod threaded at the top with a round ball on it. Maybe they couldn't figure out how to drill two screw holes in a round rod./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I have 30 joyful hours on my 45D. I was plowing 6 inches of northern michigan snow in 10 degrees and broke my joy stick where the screw goes in. My dealer was aware of two other breaks in other new hollands. I called him today and he is sending a mechanic out tomorrow with a new part that they are going to beef up. He said it is all warranty work. Other than this I have been very pleased with performance. No problems starting at -5 degrees.

It happened to me today. My joystick stopped working and upon further examination I found it snapped in two at the lower screw mount. Notified my dealer. My TC35D has only 86 hrs on it! He came out and replaced it . He stated he didn`t know of any problems with it, and then I showed him this site. He was dumbfounded just as NEW HOLLAND is. This is a serious problem and New Holland should make a new design that works. Lets see how many others this has happened to. POST YOUR PROBLEM! Lets be heard!

Have any of you guys been able to closely examine the failures ? I was wondering if it looks like a metallurgy ( spelled wrong ?? ) issue like poor steel manufacturing, or a mechanical issue like not enough beef. The lack of beef should be easy to address. The steel .... not so easy. With the level of technical ability shown here, someone must have access to the right equipment to tell.

My TC35D has not shown any problems. I have disassembled it and looked it over to see if there was any sign of stress. Couldn't see anything.

Thoughts ??
