No Joy Joystick

   / No Joy Joystick #61
Hi TC35DFORME,

My Joystick also seemed fine with no issues and heavy loader use--Until 240 hours. That's when it snapped at the bottom hole just like many of the others. I had read the other posts also, and until the time of the break, felt "lucky" that I skipped that headache.

Being fore-warned by the posts of others, I was probably extra "light handed" with the Joystick. With almost 2,000 hours of "seat time" with much of it using the loader, I would suggest it is not a matter of heavy handed use of the control.

Just for laughs, keep us posted on your status. I'm betting that yours will also break sooner or later.

I've waxed(once) and my Joystick and broken 4 times in 200hrs. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But on a more serious note, one reason why I used a heavy hand on the joystick is that when I throw it full to the right to dump, if I ease it over, sometimes it "thinks" about it for a second or two. Never seemed quite right why it would do this. But, if I quick/slam it over it wakes-up and listens to me. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If you can't gracefully abuse a tractor then what good is it?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I like seeing how much it can do, not all the time, but it's the old Tim Allen thing going. The joystick is the only thing EVER on this NH to give me grief.

I still wouldn't swap it for anything that's come out yet.

I'm with you on all the joystick design except its ruggedness. I absolutely love that rabbit-turtle switch and I "slap" mine left and right too. It's quick movement rather than a hard slam into the stop. I just can't believe you have "stayed with it" through 4 replacements. You have my sympathy... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have a TC35.... not a TC35D...and the boys at the dealership put a TC35D handle on mine (the turtle/rabbit buttons do nothing)...

Now isn't that just bum luck!?!?! ....

In any event, I'm not to worried as I know how to complain to influence and facilitate action with the best of them.... IF it breaks, they WILL fix it. The only real damage will be that which impacts my time.

As for the design flaw vs. misuse... I'll tell you what I think afte r I reach 200 hrs or so /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Jim. Well, mine finally gave out after 170 hours on the 40D. Seems like New Holland still does not have a permanent fix for this. However, I thought that I would share an excerpt from my service manager at New Holland.

"Just talked with new holland about our joystick concern, this has been a minor concern for them and it is being reviewed by engineering for a more permanent repair, for now they do suggest that we modify the handle by welding a rod onto the side of the metal shaft to stiffen it up. The parts are ordered and should be coming in in a day or so, at that time we will
make the modification to it and send it out to you."

At least they will modify it to hold up a little longer. In the meantime, I have a rather unsightly joy stick that works.

Matt.

Well, Matt, how "minor" did you think the problem was when it happened to you? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif This is typical "lawyer speak" and even this slight admission means they realize it's a screwed-up design. If you have a camera, maybe you could take a picture of your dealer's fix before you install it on your tractor. I hope it works for you and never breaks again.

Since 3/11/01. WOW! We should see the Energizer bunny cruising through anytime now. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I cant believe your dealer does not stock a new handle we warranty a couple of these every week. This is a bigger problem than let on by New Holland! Sometimes they are backordered when we order them that tells me a lot of them are being warrantied. We keep a half dozen instock all the time.

Eureka! That's it! We'll steal an energizer bunny drum-stick to replace our joy-stick. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
