3-Point Hitch No lift in 3-point hitch

   / No lift in 3-point hitch #21
Just want to be clear...

You have the tractor back and the hitch functions and goes up and down, just wont lift the bale?

Is it possible the bale is just too heavy to lift? will it lift any other (heavier) 3PH attachments you may have? Like a heavy disc, or bushhog that you know it has lifted in the past?

I had that one but didn't catch the fact that it was the piston to raise the 3ph...

Can the FEL lift the front tires up? and what size are these bales? PS. screw the english and grammer police (yes, I spelled them incorrectly on purpose!)

Indeed... THIS is what I have been asking my engineer friends (and the Kubota people say it is so, but...)! They SAY (and have shown me) where 3ph specs SAY the load can be up to 2000lb. My hay guy says his bales are around 1200lbs. So... the thing is, my hay guy has a Ford 2600 with a Koyker lift, that works circles around my tractor, and it is smaller in stature... (shrugging??? So...) He has to put a bale on the back so his FEL can lift the bale onto my 22' trailer, but still... I used to be a Corporate technical writer, and I don't want to argue with Kubota about if their spec is accurate or so... so I think best to stay my tractor at home and just live with what I've got going.

The reason I wanted to take a breath and gather my information is that I thought I saw on geneP's recommended drawing the same parts numbers that, as you say, are listed on the invoice... I will put below...

Labor PREFERRED 12.5 85.00

TOTAL, tax exempt $1295.45
Trailer rental to bring tractor home $55.00 (my 22' trailer had 7 bales on it, and that's the only one I can carry the tractor on, so they let me use one of theirs)

Oh my God, teg! I don't DARE do what you did with the FEL... Even when the tractor LEANS 10 or 15° right or left, my stomach gets really queasy and I want to throw up (hence, when I mow ditches, it's usually pretty ugly because I go back and forth and back and forth heading uphill, not cut elongated on the side, like everybody ELSE seems to be able to do... Everybody laughs at me, but so what?

Anyway... I can lift 900lb alfalfa bales (3x3x8) with a bit of help from the accelerator, but the movement seems easier for the tractor if I roll the FEL back to lift the bales, but of course, it is difficult to stack them that way, so I have to do a bit of both, rolling and lifting with the accelerator to stack.

I DID take movies of my backing one of my bales down to the mare pasture... Not sure if they will help. Still haven't put the trim pieces on the tractor yet; I took them off to save a few hours' labor costs. So my poor machine looks a little rough around the edges... Sorry guys! Freezing cold out and my animals, ESPECIALLY the cattle, were doing the Dippity-do-dah Dance. (My big cow is 2000lb or so and named "Dippy". When she bucks and crow-hops, it's impressive... You feel the ground shake!) Right... so the movies... hope they load... I don't know if you have limit or so... Oh... crap... YouTube? Ok... Let me think... (painful)

Ok... So guys? I REALLY think the movies will be helpful, so I'll upload and then get back to you with link, Ok

I always thought just doing all the "tricks" that I did to get the bale to lift when the systems started failing was too much, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. When you've got 20 animals calling you "mama", you don't have much choice.

As ALWAYS, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for any help!

Certainly looking forward to some videos.

Now about the bales.....

The kubota is rated to lift 1998# AT THE LIFT PINS. Move the load center back 24" and they only rate it for ~1500lbs.

Now without getting into a whole lot of technical details about how a 3PH works, there are ways to set it up so you can lift more, or ways to set it up to lift less. That being where the toplink is mounted on the tractor. IF you are pinned in the bottom hole, that causes the tip of the spear to lift HIGHER. And that requires more force. Since the 1998# lift spec is best case scenerio, if you are pinned in the bottom hole, have a load sticking way back, + the weight of a spear and an estimated 1200# bale( which could be more or less. Possibly ALOT more if wet), and you may just not have enough tractor to move the bales.

So first thing first, make sure the toplink is in the TOP hole. That will give you the greatest lift capacity

WOW! Makes sense! Sounds simple, but, as I learned in technical writing, the simplest way is usually the "right" way... THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! Now... for the movie (I put the two together to make one... Clumsy, but maybe Ok). I would LOVE a bigger tractor... But I have to win the Lotto first...

... ...

Like I said before, LD, I'm not the brightest crayon in the box, but I work really hard and if I didn't have God and my friends bring me along, I'd be SO lost! Oh... Hope the dang thing works!

There is too much wind... But I really think, even though the forks go up 1 1/2 to 2 inches (enough to get over most of the bumps), the tractor struggles... I will try the hole reposition though...

{EDIT} we DON'T have two holes on the arm... {/EDIT}

Love the driverless tractor!!! Hopefully the "safety police" don't see that... they make the "English Police" look tame!

Couldnt tell in the video, but what hole do you currently have the toplink in?

It looks as though the lift is ALL the way up. No way to go any higher regardless of how much more power you have. May need to do something different with the hitch, or the bale spear/forks to gain some lift height. Cause it looks like you are lacking on height and not power

So far I have done what teg recommended and moved the top link to the top hole. I took a picture... not sure if I can make the adjustment on the arms... Kind of looks different. Or, if I understand correctly, the holes the pins are already in are the ones that give more force...

LD1 and Teg have you almost there. Can you show a picture of the hole 3pt with the bale spear/forks. Just back up some from the last picture. You well be soon lifting those bales. Is that attachment you have on it in the picture a cad 1 or cad 2 ? The reason I ask is the top link looks to be to high at the attachment end.

The lift arms are on splines. They can be reset to different locations. Just keep them even. Check out the three point lever and make sure the settings on it are not limiting lift.

If you want to see how high the lift arms go disconnect at bottom arms.

Be aware that other places other than the Kubota dealership can work on the tractor. Pick the one that appears to have a good service department.

If feeding becomes onerous can you rollout some of the bale and pick up the smaller round?
