I like some things about each of the 24 hp hydro CUTs (tc24d, jd4115, b2410). but none is perfect, what should one do? The small frame is prefered for various chores. The tc24d has a very nice cruise, is rated for a 5' cutter, and I like blue. The b2410 has a lower center of gravity, can easily expand rear tires for stability, and has excellent 3pt capabilities. The 4115 has nice seat and very nice twin touch pedals. Maybe one manufacturer will put all these features on one tractor soon along with extendable 3pt links. I would like to choose one in the next month or so but at this point would have to flip a three headed coin.

Rodney,

I had a TC21D that had a 60" mower on it and I just loved it. I also had a loader with a 60" bucket. I loved the cruise and thinking I would never use it but did a lot. My only problem with the TC21D was the bucket was too large for the tractor. I purchased the bucket thinking I would mostly plow snow with it. I found with time that I was landscaping with it and had to watch the amount of dirt I put in the bucket. The tractor just wasn't heavy enough for it. The other problem was I am not on level ground. My lot is hilly. I did put wheel weights on and it made a big difference. Another person commented about the 21 with a loader and he had none of the problems I had. I ended up taking my 21 back in and getting a 29. I got a heavier loader but kept the same bucket.

But all three tractors are good. You will find that most here say, go with the dealer that you think will give you the best service, then look at the price. Just like you like individual things in each one, they each have their own quirks and they have to be taken care of. That is where your dealer comes in. I am not sure but I think the TC24 does have a wider base than the TC21. The 24 is a new tractor for New Holland.

The new Mahindra hydro should be out soon. It is another choice to think about.

I purchased a New Holland TC24D with a 54-inch bucket and Hydro Transmission. I went with the TC24D due to the additional horsepower and better overall size (not to big not to small) I have been happy with my purchase but have noticed some quality control problems with my tractor. An example is the seat safety switch; I guess my 200-pound weight was not enough to activate the switch on hills. It would not even go into gear when my wife would get on it. I have since bypassed it until it can go back to the dealer. I should point out that I almost rolled the tractor when it shut down when descending a very steep terrace. So that safety feature ended up being more of a liability. Another area I should mention was loose nuts on the front drive axle I noticed fluid seeping from the base of the axle pumpkin so I broke out the racket set and torque the nuts and all of then were loose. I hope that will solve that problem.

The good things are that it is a great piece of equipment and living on this old property is much more pleasured able since my purchase. I was renting John Deere’s from a local rental house but it was getting very expensive. Now I can take my time and plan without the time constraint.
The tractor seems very stable and surefooted. I find the headlights (4) to be best in class. The new loader is very capable and looks very nice. I do like the throttle on the New Holland TC24D since it is harder to confuse forward and reverse in a panic. Also since I drive and Allison Automatic Truck at work it can be very confusing when I jump onto a John Deere with the twin pedals. Another positive factor is that the unit seems to be built to a higher standard or it seems and looks more heavy duty compared to the rest in that class.

I will finish by saying that my dealer is great and has offered to come out and fix the stuff but I have no down time and really want to complete as much as I can while the weather holds out. I too was looking at the John Deere 4110 and really liked that unit but it seemed like it would take a long time to get it and there is now only one dealer in the entire Los Angeles area to service that product. Also the seat did not feel good for long periods and the green is so clique (just kidding)

I do not know if this has helped but there is not one day that goes by that I do not look forward to using and seeing my new tractor. It is a joy owning such a nice piece of equipment! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Well, then you should look at these. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just kidding. However, I really like my Power Trac PT425. It is very versatile, plenty powerful, small enough to fit in the rear of a full sized pickup truck and fit through a 4' gate. Also has over 40 attachments available. Very comfortable to operate, low to the ground and easy to work on. Also, non powered implemments change in 15 seconds without getting off the tractor. Powered implements take about 30 second longer.

Just something to look at for more ideas as to what you might want in a tractor, no matter what brand you go with. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Rodney,
Take a look at the next size up, you might be surprised at what you can get with a comparatively small increase in price and the differences might be clearer. I was very interested in the JD 4100, however, went with a JD 4200 so that I could get the frame mounted backhoe....the cost for a similarly equipped basic tractor was very close. Good Luck.

Well, the original poster prefers the small frame as do I so really the choice is which 24 horse unit and not should he get a bigger unit.
Well I like that NH model also, it is a nice tractor. I think I would if I had the choice again though stick with my B2410, other than the ground contact MMM I love the thing. I even have gotten accustomed to the ground contact MMM. Being able to widen the wheels is sometimes useful but not a big deal to me. I like the Kubota fore and aft pedals and would not at all like the JD type double pedal. The fore and aft is natural and easier to work. I don't like where the brake is but I like the ergos and performance of the FEL and it's joy stick. The FEL works great and is smooth and powerful. The little tractor has plenty of grunt and is fairly manuverable because of it's overall compact size. It can accept a backhoe but I will not be getting one, just no need for one as much as I would like to have it. The 2410 can run a 5 foot brush cutter but that size is big for any 24 horse unit. To bad no one makes a 54 inch. I think I am going to modify a 60 inch Rear finish mower for pasteur cutting. I got the back hoe mounting kit top link reinforcement bracket on mine, R4 tires, brush guard kit etc. It is a tough litttle unit. Good luck. J

Thanks to all who have commented, alot of good thought provoking suggestions have been made. I guess the decision making is all part of the fun of tractor shopping. Thanx again!

No desire to be contentious, but I think WCarlson has a good idea. If there isn't a "perfect" 24hp tractor, then look at the next rung up the ladder, for goodness sake. Settling for the "imperfection" of a couple more hp might be more acceptable then settling for the faults Rodney was finding at 24hp.

Rodney,

I have to agree with the recommendation to look at slightly larger tractors. They are not that much larger and according to your profile, you've got 25 acres. There should certainly be room for a larger tractor, and like others have said, you get quite a bit more bang for the buck with the higher line tractors. Don't know much about the Deere (4200?) or NH, but I would suggest the B2910 in Kubota line. A few extra bucks a month on the payments will be well worth it.

Good Luck,

~Rick
