No Politics But Vote

No sour grapes here. As a matter of fact I agree with some of the agendas of the students. Like being against the passage of toll roads when the population was against it 10 to 1( it passed anyway). Some environmental issues and some foreign issues as well. The fact is that these younger undergrad students do not have the wisdom of the older populace to make an informed decision. Not their fault though as they are busy studying. Does this mean they should not be allowed to vote? certainly not, but I do think this disqualifies them to protest on an issue or to campaign. As for being old enough to fight and die for their country. I suppose that YOUR OPINION is that this is an open invitation to do what ever you want as long as it is legal. If this is so then why can't a person drink until the age of 21? They can certainly be a bullet sponge at the age of 18. I know, because I was one. The reason is because the 18 year old is not responsible enough to handle it. Frat parties and Spring break for example. The 18 year old can join the military though, why? Because their minds can be more easily shaped to the military thought processes. This is a well known truism.
BTW, Apparently YOU think I'm qualified to vote as I am old enough to fight and die.
Everyone should be involved, but be informed too. Being informed is more important to making the right choices in life as well as an election.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I have plenty of animosity towards the "other" candidate and if anyone from the other side was here in front of me, I'd be debating until I was blue in the face. The two keys are however, that I reserve my animosity for the candidate to whom I object, and, while I feel sorry for those who don't agree with me, I don't hold it against them. At least, not for very long. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

By the way, I don't know how it is in other areas of the country, but here in St. Lucie County, Florida, the supervisor of elections had to have deputies stationed at the 4 early voting locations due to "debates" actually getting physical, apparently equally from both sides. Emotions are running very high.

Towards the other 'candidate' or the 'positions' they hold?

Hehe. I like that...

Mike, if I answered that, I'd be close to giving away how I plan to vote...

I too have always been a registered independent and have voted often for third parties.

I'm looking forward to Tuesday. And silly as it may seem it's more important to me that you vote than who you vote for. I believe if you take the time to vote then you'll do it with your conscience and with some consideration of what's important to you. You'll be an investor in our system. With me or against me, we're still on the same team because we're investors.

Some of the earlier posts had some suggestions for criteria or requisites for being elgible to vote. I think if we're going in that direction I believe it should be guided by numbers of offspring. Those who have the most to lose or profit from the system should have the votes with the most weight. I think five kids would be a good number for having one vote. Someone like myself and my wife would each have two fifths of a vote. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But then there's the step children.... do they count only for genetic parents or can they be claimed by step ones too......????????

It could change the perspective of some on abortion and maybe help adoption become more popular.

Which one are we supposed to go by as the more accurate gauge?
Is it the Washington Redskins factor, or the Halloween mask factor?

The REAL question is, who sits around and figures this stuff out? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That is what I am wondering, who figured that out in the first place or even thought of figuring it. I guess the Dow Jones the monty prior will tell us who wins. Go figure. But history does change, we just don't know when it is going to change.

Murph, I was never much one for statistical evidence as being determining factors to reach a conclusion be they sports teams to the stock market. As you say, it will change and thus history. The so called curse of the Bambino is no longer. I just marked it up to the Sox's just not being quite good enough until now. I'm glad you posted this as it has been interesting reading some of folks ideas without knowing their political bend. I don't care what it is and don't care to know.
I'm also glad we don't have the option of discussing politics here. It would not be pretty. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Rat...

Well, I think you have every right to vote, and that neither I nor anyone else has the authority to decide if you are qualified. As far as experience goes, that is what you get when you're doing something that you're no good at! Experience doesn't come from waiting, and it seldom comes from someone else. So if any of us have any experience with politics and voting, we got it when we were not too good at it. Sometimes, those who don't know any better can do things that us experieced folks would never try!

And I do have a problem with different ages for different activities. I tend to think that if you are a legal adult, then you should have all rights, whatever the age that is.
