Mowing in high or low range is up to you. As long as the engine isn't bogging down and it's not too bumpy or steep for comfort, go for it. Most of my property is so rough and steep, I'm limited to low range. In high range it's just too hard on me and the equipment.
As for the seat, I (and some others on the forum) agree with you that it does seem to have a forward tilt that is a little uncomfortable. One solution is to cut a "ring" off each of the rubber seat springs. I haven't done this yet, but the guys that have report an improvement in comfort.
