Nor\'easter

This nor'easter was supposed to miss us here in northern Vermont. We were supposed to catch just the fringes and get 4-8" of snow. But there's two feet out there and it's still coming down! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif If this is the fringe of the storm, what are you folks in the middle of it getting for snowfall?

Re: Nor\'easter

And good snowy morning to you Pete.
Looks like the weatherman 2for2 calling the snowstorms. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
About 18 inches over here w/10 to15mph wind, and now there saying the wind going to more than double..sooo w/this fine snow means drifting /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Sure hope frank f15 shuts that snow valve off after his first cup /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The weatherman call for rain on Wednesdays,so this mean cleaning off shed roofs etc..good ole New England.

Stay safe and warm over there Pete and push those banks way back. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

17F..Still snowing. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I had to do that here in PA as well. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif After every major storm, I get to;

1. Shovel the flat roof over a one story addition. (I use an orange plastic shovel so I don't damage the rubber roof.)
2. Use a roof shovel, and pull the snow off one side of the main roof on to the flat roof, then shovel the flat roof again.
3. Shovel off the roof over the front porch. It's not flat, but there's not much slope.
4. Use the roof shovel again to pull snow off the front side of the main roof.
5. Shovel off the front porch roof again.

I do all this after I've plowed driveways. So, even with a tractor, I get to do lots of shoveling. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Pete:

On a morning like this I sure wouldn't mind being on a run [ forgot the name] at a place right near you. Even the Tote Road would make for enjoyment.

Re: Nor\'easter

Ron:

I took a load of steel to Ionia and Grand Rapids Friday afternoon.

Once I got north of I 94 on M-50, the sun came out and it was actually in the mid 40's in Grand rapids. Usually, GR gets the snow and we don't.

On the return trip, I ran into wet roads coming down US 23 about the 20 mile marker. I took M-50 back to the yard in Monroe. M-50 was wet with some slushy spots between US 23 and the city limits.

Knowing the Monroe County Road Commission, they never left the garage. About the only time the MCRC does anything to the roads during a winter storm is after noon or after a number of major accidents have occurred on the roadways.

MCRC response time is poor at best.

I'm sitting here looking out the window and drinking enough coffee to give me the ambition to start clearing snow. The winds were severe enough that snow is mounded over two feet in spots and just barely covering in others. Naturally, all the areas that need to be cleared are drifted in. And my backhoe is up at my property in NH. It's snowblower and shovel time.

Re: Nor\'easter

About this much. Yes the pile is higher than the truck.

Hard to tell - Bare in some spots - 2-3 feet in others. Lots of drifting & we don't have any open fields. I'd estimate 18" so far with another 4-8 forecast. Within 20 miles of us they have gotten 30+ inches. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I've been trying to put all the snow in my parking area so that I push less of the gravel into the lawn. It takes longer & isn't working well so far. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The road crews have been doing a great job keeping our street clear - never more than an inch on it. It helps that we live on a state route.

Re: Nor\'easter

Pete:

Your Nor'easter started out west of us somewhere. I watched it's track pretty intently. We were sitting under a high pressure ridge with dry air and that pushed the storm south of us in Michigan and allowed it to come north through eastern Ohio, pick up moisture from the lakes and dump on Pennsylvania and states east of there. For a while, I thought I was going to get some early sledding in around the farm.

Re: Nor\'easter

Well Pete went to my wife's Christmas party in Burlington last night. The first real bad sign on the radio was the University Mall is now closed. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Next was the State Police saying stay home. Well got up this morning and went to the parking lot to find the car under alot of snow. Good thing for good snow tires. 35 miles and hour all the way to St. Albans. Worried about the hill. No worries. Worried about our road . The town plow was pulling in to our road as we got there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Wondered if he would do the driveway but decided not to push my luck. 600 ft of driveway with anywere from 2 to 4 foot of snow the whole way!!!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Snow came from the north. My snowfence is set up for east/west. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif 2 hours later and alot of fun we were good to go.
Have a great day and get to bed early. It'll be another plowing day tomorrow. Poor Derek!!!!!!! He and his Dad plow over a hundred driveways in Montgomery! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Good I guess if that's how you earn your living. Makes for long days though!!!!!!!!

Re: Nor\'easter

We'e in Worcester, over by the airport. You know that place on the hill that usually sets all the records for snow fall. This time we're over 18", but under 24". Not bad I guess. Fortunately we have only a small driveway. The neighbor let me borrow her small snowblower.. a big help. Unfortunately my tractors are down in Conn. I'll move the snow in style at the company in the morning. Have been watching the Patriots Dolphins game. They say there was 28" of snow on field to clear.

Re: Nor\'easter

Hi Hazmat,
Same here...some spots bare and others thigh deep drifts. This evening when I went out I noticed the bed of the P/U was full to rails. I guess thats about 20" give or take. I dont like the mix of high winds and snow all that much. Oh well...its not like we get to choose.

Had a chance (the 1st) to use my tractor mounted blower. WOW! I finished a 3.5-4 hr job in an hr. It didnt bog down even in the deepest drifts. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif It also moves the snow well into the yard which is good.

Re: Nor\'easter

Daryl
I was in Akron Ohio Friday morning.
It was snowing and blowing like they should get 1 to 2 feet. They got some snow but it turned to rain and which melted most of it.
As I drove West and North past your county all it did was rain. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Got close to home and found dry roads. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Nor\'easter

Andy

My backhoe is up in NH. Cleared my building with the snowblower and shovels. I have room for four vehicles in my yard. Two of my tenants park on the street. The past three years i would have them move their vehicles and I would clear a length of roadway that would accomodate five vehicles. Neighbors from twenty houses down would come up and park. Without the backhoe, the neighbors are all confused. When I get the backhoe back down to Worcester I'm going to cut out an additional three parking spaces off my driveway so that all my tenants can park off road. Six hours of shovelling and snow blowing. Ready for a hot bath.
