Please be very careful.....when taking a shower, an adult will get 1st degree burns if in 120 degree water for only 2.3 seconds.....

You are absolutely correct, and thank you for the concern. The water has to travel some distance and as it changes from cold to hot. It takes some time to span the gradient, enough to begin turning the mixing valve knob in the shower as it slowly gets warmer. We warn each other if someone is going to do a load of hot wash. We always go turn the thermostat back down as soon as the washing machine has filled with water.

Anyone who still uses non-disposable diapers would find this unit helpful when that hot water is needed.

Still, you are right on, and safety reminders to each other are thoughtful and of good intention.

We have one! When we shower we use only hot water but we set the temp at @ 100 to 108. This method saves energy. Think about it! On a tank heater the temp is set @ 130 to 140. When showering you have to cool the water down. With the digital tankless, preset the temp. Dishwashers have their own water heater so high temp inlet is not needed. If really hot water is needed then turn it up for a short.
We really like ours and it has saved us money sisce we've had it. On demand is the way to go especially if you got a pile of kids. You never run out of hot water......:)

Only the high end dishers have a booster heater . Your adverage house dishwasher only uses hot water from your house hot water supply. The electric element in the bottom of the dishwasher is for the drying cycle

I installed a tankless last fall, and have a slight problem and wondering if this is normal. I am on well water and I notice a fluctuation in the temp of the water while showering. I believe this is associated with the pump kicking on and off and the pressure in the holding tank changing. Anyone know of a fix, because I dont think this should be normal.

Two questions

1. What's the amp draw on that bugger?

2. What's your electric bill when you use that bugger on a regular basis?

Here is the specification of the model I installed. I installed it to code plus... the unit does not require GFI 220 breakers, looking at the instructions for installing in accordance with Canada code, I decided to use GFI since the unit is behind a wall (access panel of course) and inside my medal barn. In this area of Texas I could have gone with a the two heating element instead of the three...but it two is good, then three is better. As for cost, it not used a lot that why I went tank-less, with the "Motel Type" heat pump and this heater, and s separate wine chiller air unit, I have a little under 1300 square feet on normal 8 foot ceilings. Last summer the highest bill was about $80, in Aug. This is keeping the office, storage, bath etc at 78 and the wine chiller (a 12 x 15 room) at 58. That said the value of insulation can't be over stated.

The inlet supply should have had a flow control put on it. I have a well as well, but it only a problem when as you say the pump kicks in, but then it goes away. I think., note said I think, if you reduce the supply side flow you might fit it, but not sure. It's flow not pressure that turns the unit on, recheck your instillation instructions.

We're interested in switching to a tankless water heater in the future, but I take exception to a statement here, which we also heard from a tankless salesman: When showering using a tank heater you have to cool the water down, implying that you're wasting heated water. In reality, you mix the hot and cold water, using a little of each. Also, we leave the water heater set at 120 degrees, which is hot enough for us.

I have been away for a while. Sure happy to see I stirred some conversation. Have had the heater installed for several weeks now and no problems at all. Still waiting to see how much my propane usage drops.

Our house had 2 water heaters. Both were the same age so I'm sure the second one is on borrowed time. Today I started installing prefabing the gas and electrial. This way it won't be down more than a day once I get to rip the old 1 out.

Here is a picture of the first one install. In this picture I'm still making sure I have no leaks so the insulation is not completely install.

Did anyone have to up the propane supply pressure to the house to keep from having starvation when the water heater and the furnance is operating at the same time?

You shouldn't have to up the pressure. these things need volume. Run the correct size line & you shouldn't have a problem

The main issue with going tankless in an existing house is the cost of retrofitting either the gas or electric service to supply the high peak power/BTU demands (in addition to any plumbing changes to move it closer to an outside wall for venting). Depending on how things are set up in your existing house - this can be the dealbreaker as it could cost far more to make the changes than what could ever be gotten back with the energy savings. For new construction, however, I think this is the way to go. Glad to see that yours was an easy one to put in. In my case it was a no go due to all of the required changes.
