Wow Pete, those are serious chains! Looks like with all that snow you're getting good use out of them.

Hey, great looking bobsled run too /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Nice looking chains, Pete. Are they primarily for ice and snow, or are they equally applicable to mud? I'm seriously considering some chains for the EF-5.

What is the size of your tires on you EF-5?

wo! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Thems some tough looking chains! Do they dig up the driveway?

Yes, but the driveway is a sheet of ice over gravel, so breaking it up is a good thing!

I actually used them hauling firewood last mud season and was very impressed by the additional traction they provided. The one drawback to using them in mud is the incredible mess they leave...especially since mud season's freezes make using the hoses dicey.

Rob -- Thanks! We're at about half our normal snowfall for this time of year, and approaching January thaw so might lose it all. My hope is that the packed snow on the sled run survives till the stuff starts falling again.

Mark,

I found a company out east that has a limited website. I received a free copy of their catalog and it had a lot of photos showing different types of chain and chain patterns. There were some patterns for ice, deep snow and another for crawling over wood. The site is http://www.labonville.com/

I've seen the labonville site, seems like pretty serious stuff for commercial logging operations. I think the norse ice chains, especially the diamond pattern, is about the mercedes of chains. If I remember the cost is about the same as a mercedes too!! How much did that set cost you if you don't mind me asking? If I remember right cost was the only thing that prevented me from getting that type vs the duogrip. Just didn't need the extra grip for my uses.......

I used the Labonville catalog as a teaching aid only. I got my Chinese made chains from my local dealer for about $90. My tire size is 12-16.5

here is a shot of the chains that came in a box when i bought my kioti. i don't know thw brand as this was a used tractor. the lugs look similiar but the rings and links are different. they really help on loose soil and frozen ground though not enough snow or ice to tell yet.
