I have a 2.5 lb bird feeder that was emptied the first day during the snow. I took a coffee can of seed out on the deck and tossed it out towards the feeder, allot of it sunk in the snow.
It was funny watching the birds, in 5 minutes they had a tunnel in the snow. It was weird watching cardinals and such disappearing, then popping back up like a gopher.. You would have thought it was "stimulus seed" the way they lined up for it..
Then we had some other kind of bird that was stealing cat food that sits under our deck table, my daughters cat sitting less than 18" away and could have cared less!
My daughter took a load of pictures, the hope is since this was a record breaker, is that she got one good enough to size up for the wall.

Well, that's no fun. It can be a real pain if you aren't prepared for it to be off that long.
It's a topsy-turvy winter. We have had at least 90% sunshine for the past three weeks, highs last three days around 35*-38*. That's a good 7*-9* above the average for this time of year. Our lowest temp all winter has been -7* and probably won't go below that again now with Feb. half over. Now they are postponing some of the Olympic downhill ski events in the mtns. above Vancouver due to slushy snow. Wash. DC has had more than twice the inches of snowfall this season than Portland, Maine.
I can only marvel, and chuckle a bit
, at the snow pics you guys are posting and all the snow clearing 'fun' that has been had in the south. It's one of those winters to remember.Jim - like your pics, keep 'em coming. You guys look like you are ready for winter with the parkas on. That is a nice shot of your house from the road.
