North vs. South....

I saw an add for walmart the other day, for a honda powered mower, for 199.00. Sounded pretty good, didn't see it though.

My Dad, rest his soul, not being very mechanically inclined, demonstrated how to destroy a nice mower a few years ago. He bought a 2 cycle LawnBoy push mower, very light and easy to push and cut like the dickens.

Pushed it under a picnic table and broke the air cleaner off. Of course it was much more important to finish the mowing than to fix the air cleaner. He got about another 45 minutes out of it with dust and debris flying before it gave up.

I bought a John Deere self propelled off a guy that tinkers with them at his rummage sale 14 years ago. I use it about once or twice a year and knock on wood it has never failed to start. I can't get myself to buy a new one as long as this runs.

Yes the building is mine but I would rather sleep in my truck. Seems there were several "families" or home type places on this property. The water lines and buried 110 romex snake around to each "lot". I only know of one septic system though. The pair of shacks in the background will eventually go away. The clearing shown was the only real clear spot in the whole jungle before I started. I quickly, after about a half acre, moved from the lawnmower to the weedwacker used as a scye(SP?the grim reaper tool) to lower the grass. Now it is the brush hog and probably about 5 acres in open pasture.

Here's the view the other way.

Highbeam,

The place sure is looking nice. You've really done a great job of cleaning it all up. No way would anybody ever guess you only had a half acre open area before you started. I bet the previous owners wouldn't recognize the it.

Thanks folks.

I am taking zillions of photos showing the progression. That photo shows just the front acre or so and the low part is my "wetland". The row of trees was created when the PO dug a drainage ditch and put in perf pipe and gravel. It is amazing the clues you can find, like a straight row of trees on humps, if you know to look.

Sorry to steal the thread.
