On my way home I saw where someone had dumped a washing machine in the ditch. Not even a deep ravine or anything, just a mile or two outside of town. Since we have lived in the country, about 20 years, I've had a recliner and sofa thrown along side the rode on my property and other places seen a T.V., couch, tile from a bathroom and large piles of leaves. One of these days I'll see someone doing it and get a plate number.

Yep, we've had the same thing. I sometimes wonder how much of it is the result of the landfills charging to dump to dispose of things. They all used to be free and now I don't know of any free ones.

We had a lot of that up in Anchorage. Finally convinced the local disposal site(gov owned and operated) to have a free day once a month for folks to bring in everything from junk cars to dead horses. It helped a whole lot.

I found a dead deer laying on top of a blue tarp in our ditch. The local cop was very interested in it. He said he knew who where it came from and he would make sure the guy came by to pick it up.

Out here we get a dump card from the County. It allow us to take 750# of just about anything to the dump once a week at no charge. It also allows 10 greenwaste only loads a year.

Dump fee here is $10 + $93 per ton. Lots of littering, too.

What are the local dump fees?

Here they aren't bad if your in the city. You get a free pass for a certain amount of trips. I think it was 3 trips.

I live in the county. For county residents, you better round your truck up and then go some more to make it worth your while. Last load I took was a small pickup truck load. Got to the dump and the minimum fee was $86 Used to be $35.

Welcome to your reality then! I used to live in a state that charged about as much to dump trash as a month’s electric or gas bill. Guess what? Trash on the side of the road. Now I live in a state that takes about everything you can throw at it and it’s part of the property tax- any surprise it’s spotless!?!?
While most here could afford both but some can’t. If I was in a position to either keep lights on, feed the family or pay dump fees- well let’s just say you’d be complaining about me. This sounds your political climate is off...

Once a week I ride my roadside fence line and pick up trash, every week I pick up at least 10 Keystone light beer cans. I致e got a neighbor farther up the road who really likes keystone light.

Our landfill (actually, transfer station now, landfill is closed) charges about $80/ton.

However, you can separate out recyclables - non-deposit ("CRV" in California) paper, cardboard, tin, and plastic are free to dump but aren't compensated; and aluminum and CRV glass and plastic (basically anything carbonated or not all milk/juice) bottles they pay you to bring in.

My garbage bill, about every three months, is typically zero - my recycling completely offsets the trash, plus a couple hours of time (loading trailer, round trip and dump time), minus time to take stuff out to the end of the road on a weekly basis if I didn't do it this way (and time cleaning up when a can gets hit next to the road by a car or a bear).

If I couldn't afford to dispose of it properly, I still wouldn't go out and dump it in some road side ditch. Someone else is going to have to clean it up, in this case the road commissioner.

Around here, most people take them to the scrap yard who will pay you by weight. They will not however take refrigerators unless you have a certificate saying that the refrigerant was evacuated.

I completely understand and may have come across wrong. I didn’t know how “good” it could be until I arrived in this state. I asked how the trash worked when I was building my house. The county said go to the disposal site and they will take care of you. Here are some rough DAILY limits- 8 yards of waste, 4 tires, 2 car batteries, 5 gal oil, 2 appliances etc.
In my old state the rates kept going up and the roadside trash also kept going up- you couldn’t hardly make a dump run for under $75. I didn’t know it could be any other way until I moved. Now I wonder why everyone isn’t doing the same thing.

Sometimes I wonder if Illinois is run by folks who have never seen the lower 2/3 of the state.

I saw, I believe on Youtube, a guy made his own little reality show. He goes through garbage dumped near Detroit looking for I.D. and then repatriots (sp?) it to the rightful owners.

A few years ago I had an issue with oil filters, trash ect dumped at my place every few months. I went through the filters and there were consistently three different ones. Low and behold a guy mile up had those 3 exact cars in his driveway. He then made the mistake to include a magazine with his address on it. I then recollected many of the filters from my scrap recycle pile and dumped about 10 filters and all the there crap from the most recent dump in the middle of his drive. Never happened again..............

Call the Sheriff. It may not be high on their list, but they will investigate around here when they can work it in. There has been plenty of people caught and prosecuted.
