On the JD 790, the operator station is rather cramped. I would love to have a little more room between the seat and the area beneath the dashboard so I could get my foot (with a boot on it) through without hitting something everytime.

I would also like for the battery tray to be made from stainless steel, or some composite material that battery acid doesn't affect.

A 3 x 3 transmission (for 9 speeds) would be one notch better than the 4 x 2 (8 speeds) that it has now.

you should have purchased my 870.......cept for the battery trey you would have scored a hit

Lets see, I love my L3400HST, but there are a few things. No valve stem guards on the front wheels.. have them on the rear, Which are the most important since they are fluid filled. No telescoping lower links or telescoping sway chains. Oh well, have compensated by adding carters hitch. And the turnbuckles, had locknuts, boy that was a pain, but found holes drilled thru the threaded portion, so put hairpins in them and that makes it easy to adjust and set them. No more getting a wrench to loosen and tighten the locknuts:thumbsup:. The 3pt is jerky going up, but it doesnt hurt anything I do. If I had a 3pt boom pole, that would be a different story. L3400 has no rubber mat, so the paint wears off the floorboards pretty quick.. fixed that with some pickup bed liner.. problem solved. It has a Clutch, and is a HST, but I love the clutch, as it is neccessary for the PTO engagement, I can ramp up the driveline very slowly by throttleing down, and engageing the clutch slowly and smoothly. I like that a lot.. no banging or clanging here. It has Hydrostat, but it does not have Hydrostat Plus.. I can see how that would be helpfull. Oh well it is an economy model, I guess it cant have all the goodies and still be cheap. Overall I like it a lot, but sure there are some nitpicks.

It seems that those clutches on the hydro models are good to have from reading all this. My B-I-L has to carry a pocket full of shear pins for his mower because everytime he hits the PTO switch when forgetting to idle way down, he has to then get off and replace the shear pin. Even at the recommended 1500 rpm it will still shear the pin sometimes as it is instant on.

Have a GC2400L

Thought I would be disappointed getting such a small tractor vs the 1643. Boy was I wrong. First time I pushed the snow off my driveway I was convinced I had made the right choice. Plenty of power, plenty small to get in where you need to.

Would be nice to have some of the features of the bigger tractors.

I don't like having to drop the PTO out to get off the seat. It makes it a pain to pick up rocks while tilling the garden.

Foldable ROPES would be sweet

Some easier way to adjust the 3pt would be nice. The turnbuckles and lock nuts are a pain

Would be nice if the PTO shaft cover didn't require a socket wrench to remove and attach

Heated/cooled cup holder. Ok, I'm dreaming here.

I would prefer a beefier R4 tire (like the kubota)

I like the way the 1643 had the throttle tied to the HST.

Wish you didn't have to get a massive tractor to get most of the niceties.

I'm working on installaing a horn to my L3940 right now! Got the horn (~$12), wire & fuse holder at Pep Boys. Got the button at Radio Shack. Already had all the connectors, heat shrink wrap, etc. Just need to solder the wires to the back of the button ... & find the perfect place to mount it. I'm thinking on the Range Selector / Cruise Control side panel. I mounted the horn itself on the cross bracket under the hood that is right above the battery & in front of the radiator. It even already has a threaded hole that's perfect to secure the horn & its ground wire! It requires an 8mm 1.25 thread bolt (~3/4" long) & a lock washer of course.



You should be able to add both of those easily enough :thumbsup:

None of our tractors are "instant on" and you can gradually engage the PTO with the lever.
