I waited until the roof is on to start this thread. Hope to have the barn finished by November. Its 26 x 32'.

Posts...

8' OC on the sides. ~10 OC on the end walls. When we first started there was no water on the property, hence the red cans -- there is now.

Beams....

Double 2 x 10, lag bolted to the posts. There is little snow load here, and as steep as the roof is, nothing going to stick.

Roof...

Bubble insulation to help prevent condensation - the seams are not yet taped in the photo.
The roof pannels are double screwed to increase the wind rating.
The soffits and fascia are covered in brown metal.

Started the siding, "bark side out"

It's 1 x 8 pine with 1x2 battens. Ran out of lumber, have to have some more cut.

Siding is on, door awning remains to be done, along with the door latch hardware and some adjustments. The one side has been cleaned in preparation for borax treatment and stain.

Beautiful barn! Wanna come to NC and build another one? ;) Seriously, that's a great looking barn...just the size I am wanting to build. Did you cut the timber yourself?

Thanks for the compliments. I harvested the trees and took them to the mill. Mother nature harvested many more of them as well during the storms last April. We guessed that the rough cut lumber is 1/4 -1/3 the price of dimensional lumber. I added it up once and it came to over 6K store bought, I have about 2600 invested in the rough cut stuff, but includes time for a chain saw operator and track loader during some of the clearing we did last year. As the loader felled the trees the chainsaw guy limbed and cut them into logs, then the loader stacked them out of the way. In that way, the logs were not rolled around in the mud, sawyers don't like muddy logs.

Nice Job!!! Ow ... M U C H ??

Thanks for the compliments. Bringing it to completion, about 15K. The most expensive part was the roof 5.3K, 14 yards concrete 1700, trusses 1100. Woodguard, pink antifreeze and borax 1000, lumber mix of rough cut and dimensional, about 4k. Door lumber and hardware 600, Red fill dirt, about 250, some tools I did not have, the list goes on. We did not plan on concreting it this year, was going to leave it gravel, but its just easier for the crew (read less expensive) if the siding is not installed. And, I did not want the concrete trucks in the back yard after the house is as up. I'm glad we did, because the concrete made a nice place to work while we installed the siding.

The siding has been cleaned. I used bleach with a few squirts of Murphy's oil soap. Sprayed it on and let it set for about 15 minutes, then rinsed.

Cooking the borax and Rv antifreeze, just warmed it a bit so the Tim-Bor would better dissolve. 1 coat of 15 % soultion inside and out. We applied a faux wood finish to the metal door - its chestnut brown gel stain with Rustoleum sand color as a base. Steps lead to the loft. Next week, weather permitting, we'll apply the Woodguard stain.

I got the rescipe for the Tim-Bor here...

Stain and gutters on -- finally! Need the gutters to protect the siding from the roof run-off splash.

11 gallons of Woodguard Warm Pecan. Next month I'll do the clear -- after its cured for a month or so.
In the spring, I'll bury the black drain pipe.

Tony
