Typical story here: Several years ago I had an encounter with three hunters who drove into my yard - parked & threw their empties in my yard. I approached them and they asked where they could park while they hunted my land. They had just come thru my gate with the large no trespassing sign and were obviously in some degree of intoxication. I told them that they were on private property and asked that they leave. One of the three said he knew and they would be leaving when they were dam well ready. If somebody had thrown a quarter on the ground, I would have shot all three on the spot - but I contained myself and instead called the County Sheriff. All three were arrested for trespass and their pickup was impounded. Never heard the end of the story, beyond their arrest, and I don't care if I ever do.

I get hunters accessing my property and the neighbors property every hunting season thru my gate. We try to find them, advise them and hope for the best. This has gone on every year for the 34 years I've lived here.

This year I put a large chain and lock on the outer gate. Went on the gate a week prior to hunting season and will remain until the season is over.

It just really galls me that I have to lock up my property to prevent an illegal act by others.

I apologize if my previous post- #45 - upset anybody, but that's just the way things are and after 34 years I've about had it up to here with hunters.

No worries. Some city folks just don't understand the headache that hunters can be. Amazing how deer can turn normally rational people into complete idiots. The worst part is deer camp = beer camp which is not a good combination.

We need more serious punishment to deter this type of behavior as in most cases trespassing and poaching is not prosecuted or if it is it ends up being a slap on the wrist. Most simply reoffend.

LAffin. Best of luck with your trolling.
I accept your lack of ability to defend your previous post as the best a weak man can do in the way of an apology for your unsubstantiated remark.

I had not intended to get involved in this, but in some "no vehicle" areas, a disabled person can get a permit to access the area. I've met a couple in the public land I use to hunt. One used a conventional ATV and another had an electric powered off road chair surrounded by camo cloth.

I have to hunt from a vehicle, but do so with the proper permit from MDC and on my own property. I know several DAV who are in this situation or soon will be.

You and another are choosing to troll this thread into a fight with all the talk of people dying (yes it is a fact that you and the other Easterner from Ohio brought killing people up because you misunderstood the comment about shooting a 4 wheeler) and defending trespassers. Now you are going for personal insults like "Weak Man" comments toward me. I live an internet tough guy who talks trash from his moms basement. Troll your heart bout buddy as I dont' think anyone here cares about the trolls opinions at this point. Try not making it so obvious next time.

All yo are doing at this point is making a fool of yourself with claims that "If the trespasser was injured as a result of his/her trespassing it would be the landowner or person who damaged the 4 wheeler who is responsible". Keep up the fine work. LAffin. I wont' be responding to any more of your trolling. Have a great day.

Yep. People who follow the rules have plenty of opportunities to do things the right way. I remember a friend of mine getting an exemption to use a crossbow years ago because of a shoulder injury.

In the end this isn't really about hunters as much as it is about people who do not follow rules and seem to think they are above the laws everyone else follows. People have little respect for animals or for private property. You can't ride yoru 4 wheeler off road in wilderness or in places like national parks, state parks, etc... for a reason. Not having unlimited motorized travel off road is what makes these places special and unique to visit.

It's you who misunderstood. The context was shooting the vehicle would disable it and if it's trespassing operator could not survive the rigors of the hike back from the wilderness then "good riddance", let the coyotes eat their carcass.

I insinuated there would be consequences for the land owner if a death resulted from such action...and there would be, especially if said land owner was known to have previously stated an intent to do so on...oh say...an internet forum or other public venue. There was never any talk of shooting a person as you claim.

As for insults, Pot, meet kettle, the first words in your first response to my post were "you troll" in post #47. I'm not trolling you. You went off on some incomprehensible tangent. You can take "weak man" as a nicety, it's far kinder than what you have proven yourself to be.

Sorry to have interrupted the fun you were having with that corn cob, as you were.
