We can continue to disagree Mike, I want to move towards solutions...For now, "that's all I got".

Reg, there's nothing to disagree about. You insist;

- TBN can unilaterally resolve this problem.
- You do not want to make any changes.

You've received an explanation for what the problem is and what TBN has tried to do to resolve it. Additionally, you have been provided at least 2 solutions/workarounds;

- Switch from Earthlink as your ISP.
- Use a Gmail account and auto-forward to your Earthlink account.

I've checked several TBN IP addresses I could identify via WHOIS and PINGs at the 2 sites you mentioned. None are being blocked.

I'll defer to Muhammad, Hakim or Ibrahim for followup, if appropriate. Good luck.

This issue is caused by Earthlink and/or ATT, AOL and various others, who routinely and arbitrarily count emails as spam --- SOLELY because a user of theirs marks an email as "spam." This is their way to "manage spam."

We have tried to get ATT, AOL and other services to "unblock" our address for almost 3 years. We have submitted, re-submitted and contacted all of these services, and also had our top sysadmin directly try to resolve the issue. Either they do not understand, or do not care, that we and our users, along with tens of millions of others are affected in this way.

So long as 1) these services provide their users with a big "Report As Spam?" button, and 2) if they get a few, or even ANY emails reported in this manner, they will block an ISP, you will have this problem. We are not causing it, and cannot resolve it.

Believe me, I wish their were an easy solution, but there is not any available from such providers. As long as there is email, and as long as these companies use arbitrary and ruthless methods such as this, blocked emails are going to occur.

My suggestion is that you open a Gmail account and use that for your TBN and similar affected providers. Gmail at least has intelligent people behind it, with very sophisticated spam fighting algorithms that do not destroy legitimate email. They can and do distinguish between true spammers, and large sites like TBN that generate significant legitimate emails as part of doing business.

I have opened a gmail acct and it seems to be operating properly. Next problem. i select instant notification on my subscribed threads and check them all, but when I leave setup and return they are all unchecked. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing you are doing wrong is causing that.
It just resets it's display of the check boxes.
In your list of subscriptions they should still say "instant" under notification.

Not the way I see it (from here) Mike.

It seems that TBN is getting blocked by more than one ISP, all I am trying to do is help find a solution for more than just myself (Specifically) on Earthlink (Specifically)
{It isn't just about ME (-: & not just about me and Earthlink either }.
From more than one ISP's viewpoint TBN is indistinguishable from a spammer.

Yes, I could run to another ISP - but what do I do when THEY count up what they are sending me from TBN and they too decide to start blocking ?
The more of us that run to any specific email provider just to solve (circumvent) this the sooner they too will block TBN - hence switching e-mail providers is not a "Solution".

We can disagree (hopefully without being disagreeable) on the extent to which TBN should go to exonerate themselves.
Right now I think that it would be in TBN's interests, as well as it's members, to get themselves off of the blocked lists.
Wherever those lists are, whoever uses them, etc.

The problem (as I understand it) is that Earthlink uses a non-standard internal only blacklist and does not seem to want to remove TBN from it.
If you go to Network Tools: DNS,IP,Email and Network Tools: DNS,IP,Email it will check TBN and the server that TBN emails come from against the "Big name blacklists" (105 of them) and TBN comes up clean on all of the lists.

Thus, the problem is an internal Earthlink blacklist, not an external verifiable blacklist and the issue needs to be raised to earthlink support BY A CUSTOMER complaining that they are not receiving emails that they have requested because they are not interested in listening to anyone else.

Pretty simple... Call Earthlink and tell them you want to receive e-mail from TBN. Tell them to make an exception in their system to white list all e-mail from TBN to you. If they can't do that for you tell them you will be looking for another ISP, as you need this e-mail and the sender is known to be safe. You need to take the bull by the horns here.

Reg. Have you called Earthlink like I suggested?

Mike,
Thanks for looking those up this morning, despite our differences of opinion I really DO appreciate your help.
Aaron,
Thanks to you too, those blacklist checks are interesting, I only got two timeouts.

Here is the mail I got on my temporary test e-mail account, it seems to illustrate a reason other than blacklist entries that mail from TBN is suspect.

IIRC, you do not get email notification if you respond to your own thread, only if someone else (like me) responds.

Do those of you who get updates ever see this disagreement between "From" and "Return path" in the mail headers ?

OK, I can understand Muhammad not wanting hundreds of thousands of us hitting our reply keys, just suggesting that this might be a filter of the type that Earthlink and other ISPs are using to block TBN mail.

There is nothing further to add to this discussion. We have explained the issues involved. TBN will continue to make efforts on this issue when appropriate. As already explained, the matter cannot be resolved by the tactics suggested by various posters.

I closed the thread because it is just repeating everything already gone over.
