Kioti NX4510HST
This past weekend my tractor developed a serious smoking issue with 4 regenerations in 15 hours. The first 3 auto regenerations were successful. The 4th one failed. I tried to do a manual regeneration and that failed also which put the engine check light on. There is fuel in the oil and the turbo is leaking oil into the intake hose. I will update the issue as the information comes in.

The tractor started, check engine light is still on but barely smoking. I shut it off and called the dealer.

Hit the manual regen and let it do it’s thing. Mine done something similar. Dk4510. Light would come on and run rough then be all good for about 10 more hours. Didn’t even have 150 hours on it. I said welp it’s under warranty well see if she goes or blows. After 45 minutes of skeeter fogging it finally stopped and light went off. Awful smell too. Since then if I run it I crank it let idle for about 5 min then rev up to at least 1800 rpm. I never run it under 1800 rpm now and it seems the light comes on a lot less. Before I was just idling around. Good luck.

Some times bad fuel can create all kinds of weird issues on DPFs.

I get all my fuel from the same station. I'm down to almost a 1/4 of a tank without any issues before today. My dealer told me that I might have bad fuel the last time it acted up. The problem was a bad injector.

I tried the manual regen. The motor was smoking and rapping so bad I had to shut it down. I mentioned that in the original post. The motor sounded like it was going to blow up.

Hey Jim. I have the same tractor. Last year suddenly started regenerating every hour, with some smoke. Not the amount of smoke you are describing. Dealer came and tested injectors and found one bad one. Good. Injector replaced and dealer left. Was better, but still a little smoke and regens every 5 hours or so. Next visit we took hose that goes from turbo to intake, and it had a bunch of oil in it. Turbo seal failure caused the smoke and frequent regens. Has been good since with regens at 25 - 30 hour intervals. Can't explain the engine problem though.🤔🤔

I dropped my tractor off at the dealer.

Waiting for results on the damage to come in.

If they get all the issues cleared up and it seems to be running good the first thing I would do when it got home would be to throw a "test pipe" in the exhaust and see how it ran.

Do you know of anyone that has done this with success? There is a smog related heat sensor on the intake side of the DPF.

Just my two cents here. It's possible that your injectors are good.

When a DPF have many failed regens, the extra fuel give by the injectors ends up going on the oil, therefore increasing the level on the dipstick. This happens a lot in my small country with diesel vehicles with DPF because the engine just doesn't run enough. Usually short 3 to 6 mile trips to and from work for most people.

Now, the failed seals on the turbo would cause oil to go on the intake. We all know what happens when an engine eats oil, all that smoke and such is not good for the DPF and will plug the DPF quite fast. Then you get a bunch of failed regens. Everytime a regen happens, the ECU will send info to deliver more fuel to increase the temperature at the DPF. Again, with failed regens, the unburnt fuel ends up in the crankcase.

Most on vehicles, but some engines will have a mark on the dipstick above the regular oil level, that indicates that the oil should be changed because it's too much diesel diluted in it and increased the level.

Not on the Kioti per say but many people that s=do so will not advertise doing so,
you could put a tap in a test pipe for the temp sensor and any pressure or differential pressure sensors.
A orifice in a pipe could provide a small differential pressure if needed.

What you say makes a lot of sense because I checked the oil level on a slight incline on Sunday and it was just a little over full. I figured that was because the tractor was aimed uphill and the stick was on the downward side. That means that this machine dumped a lot of fuel into the oil in a very short time.

Yup, that would fix that. Also emptying out the DPF would also make it a straight chamber. I have seen catalytic converters that were cut open and the inards removed then welded back up.

Amazing how the inards just disapeared :dance1::thumbsup:

Not sure if it's that easy on Kioti, like it is on a Branson.

Kioti uses Common rail engines and the DPF is tied together with the engine, electronically speaking.

Once the DPF is gutted, I'm sure the differential pressure sensors will throw a rave party.

My tractor only had one failed regen at the very end when it started smoking bad and I had to shut it down. The other ones all shut the light off.

I am afraid with the Kioti it will go into reduced power mode if the computer does not see the proper parameters. Another member here, MinnesotaEric believes he has found a way to fool the computer but I don't think he has installed it yet.

Here is his thread.

Sorry for your troubles but this is the very reason I choose Branson over the rest when I was in the market last year.
