O-RING unlocatable:Kubota glass fuel filter bowl

I've got a Grand L5030HSTC and when you replace the fuel filter it does NOT come with a replacement o-ring for the glass bowl. After 500 plus hours, my o-ring has had it and leaks. Today I looked unsuccessfully for a replacement at the following local locations:

O'Riley auto parts
Fox Auto parts
Tractor Supply
Home Depot
Advance auto parts
Jiffy lube
John Deere dealer
Ace hardware
a small engine repair shop

Conclusion.... must call Kubota in Austin on Monday and see if they will mail me about 5 so I don't have to go thru this again. I really don't want to have to make a 100 mile round trip for this simple part... gas would cost more than the part

Just FYI... if you ever have this problem, suggest you get several o-rings when you find them.

I wish they made them so that we could drain off water. Up here in the winter, I get a lot of condensate and a quick drain would be much easier.

Me want to do that also.

On aircraft that is a routine 'preflight' requirement that all us tractor jockies should adopt.

Believe you me purging fuel lines in the cold is no fun, especially if your battery is marginal and worst if you are far from your tools.

I just googled "L5030 Fuel Filter" and found a bunch of on-line retailers that also have the O-Ring.

sounds like the unlocatable O-Ring may have been located.

But just in case anybody can't find what they need....

My local bearings supplier (here in Australia) sells O-Ring cord.

You buy it by the metre (or feet in your case) and in diameters going from 2mm to 5mm (and possibly beyond) in 0.5mm increments I think.

You cut it squarely to the length required, put a fraction of a drop of adhesive on one cut end, then push the ends together accurately, (I think you can buy a "jig" to help with this) and hold for 30 seconds.
After a minute or two you can remove any squeezed out, hardened adhesive with a file or better yet a burr in a die grinder.

The adhesive is Loctite 406 or there is a rubbery version of this, can't remember the number and haven't tried it on O-Rings.

You'd think the joint would end up hard and inflexible but i've even used it for backhoe cylinders at 3000psi and it works.

Very useful to have on hand for large O-Rings that aren't in assortments.

Such good ideas... and, dillo99, you rock... I googled as well but didn't have the luck you had.... found filters, but not the much sought after O-ring

Allenr, I'm gonna see if I can locate locally the O-ring cord you describe... never heard of it but sounds very promising to put in my collection of stuff for "the next time" .

So, I'll explore what the Austin dealer can do for me.. and the cost of entire bowl... and let y'all know how it goes when I get everything working right!

Allen is totally correct. One company I worked for would buy o-ring cord or bulk. The assembler would cut to length and glue together with super-glue. It was used on an underground tool and ran at 125 cfms

Hercules Sealing Products They sell the corded o-ring make it yourself kits. Warning, this takes some practice. Don't think that you buy this kit and you never need to buy an o-ring again. Use it for an aw shoot moment.

Why didn't you try a hydraulic shop for the o-ring? I'll bet I had them on the shelf. You don't go to a hyd shop for brake pads.......

And the winner is:

Lanford Equipment in Austin, Texas... they are good people. I called, parts was on the phone, I left a message and they called back within 5 minutes.

The fuel bowl is actually plastic, not glass as I had indicated. Their price is $22.54. So, one could guess that you might be able to drill a hole in it for drain purposes and risk of breaking should be less than if it were glass. If you try it, let me know how it works, please.

$.97 for the big O-ring for the bowl
$.31 for the little O-ring for fuel filter inside the bowl

They are going to put 4 of each O-ring in an envelope and mail via US Mail to me. Us Mail will be less than UPS...
