I've heard a lot about off road diesel (aka: "red diesel"). Can I use this in my tractor that reads: "use ultra low sulfur or low sulfur diesel only"? If so would it be cheaper than diesel from the gas station? Where would I find it?

You should be Ok. I'm also in Southeastern PA, and I don't know of any refineries producing high-sulfur diesel anymore. All the "red diesel" (un-taxed) we have received at work since mid 2009 is ULSD.

Yes it's cheaper; was $0.68 last time I bought some, but I don't know where to get in SEPA. I was getting it from a farm service store in Bethel (was on my way home from work), but no longer travel to Lebanon County for work. Guess I need to find a place. I'm going to ask my dealer.

Yes, that is what your tractor is meant to run on.

The end of August or beginning of September. Can't remember exact date.

Trust me, red diesel simply avoids some of the tax on diesel, thus it's only cheaper by the amount of tax. Yes, he means "$.068 cheaper".

Yes, $0.68 cheaper. Sorry for not being clear!

$.68/ quart????? We pay 80 some-odd cents / liter for HHO or dyed diesel. One is always a few cents more than the other, but which of the two is cheaper varies...

You should be fine. I'd just make sure that others are using it too...I like to buy diesel from places that sell a decent volume of fuel, you don't want it in underground tanks for a year....Just my OCD I guess.:(

You should be fine, #2 diesel is low sulfur diesel. I use it in all my compact tractors, mahindra's and kubota's, even in my cub cadet----No problems, and it is about 30 cents less than highway diesel.

1*Yes. About 95 percent of all diesal is U L S D.
This includes any color of on road , off road , fuel oil and HHO.
2*Should be at least less the FED and State highway tax.
I'v been paying around 40 cents a gallon less.
3*Call the fuel distributers/suppliers in your area.

Now you just have to find out were to buy it. Around my house I only have 2 stations that sell it. Its a little cheaper there but not $.68 per gallon cheaper.

I get it from the Co-Op delivered. We also have another fuel company that delivers and its about $.50 per gallon cheaper than regular diesel but I have to buy a minimum of 150 gallons at a time.

That's one thing that easy to find my my neck of the woods and it's .68 or so cheaper than road fuel.

Does anyone know the total tax for road diesel in PA? I was told a few years ago that it was $0.80 per gallon.

Also, I forgot to add in my first reply that I did have to pay PA sales tax. The vendor explained (and I later confirmed) that since there was no Fuel tax applied, and I'm not sales tax exempt then I was liable for the sales tax. So, the purchase wasn't completly tax free.
